5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
No matter what those other people say, i love this cd. It is cute, fun, and touching. The best tracks are 3,6,7,8,and 12. It is really worth listining to. I just got it and i've already listened to it like 7 times, literally! I'll be listening to it the whole year long! And Rosie does have a good voice. I don't care what those 1 star people say.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not all good
Rosie sings on all but 2 tracks, and keeps up remarkably well with the variety of vocalists and styles. A few new compositions on the disc, but mostly jazzed up traditionals. Best of set is still Trisha Yearwood's "Santa on the Rooftop." For all that is good about the disc, it harbors a darker side that I just couldn't get past. First we have the obnoxious...

5.0 out of 5 stars Can Rosie prove the meaning of Christmas any better?, November 21, 1999

This review is from: Rosie Christmas (Audio CD)
This collection of beautifully written and presented songs is the perfect gift for anyone this season. Rosie O'Donnell shows that the true meaning of Christmas is giving to those in need. She is the true diva of the album. I love all the songs, they make you feel "all warm and fuzzy inside". This is the perfect gift for those hard-to-buy for kind of people. And you are contributing to a great charity. ~Your greatest fan.....coming all the way from Alaska. Merry Christmas Everyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Alot of Fun!, November 28, 1999
This review is from: Rosie Christmas (Audio Cassette)
Rosie's christmas CD is not just fun - the music is good, as well! It is a good balance of songs that Rosie sings with more "accomplished" artists. A little tongue-in-cheek, the highlight is Rosie and Gloria Estefan's duette, "I wanna eat for Christmas".

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST I've EVER heard, November 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rosie Christmas (Audio CD)
This is the best christmas CD i've ever heard. I have to admit that the singing by Rosie isn't the best in the world, but she admits to it everyday, and besides i think she was on key and did pretty well...hey her primary focus isn't singing! but it's a blast because it shows us that you don't have to be the best at something to do it....do what you want and as long as it's your best right? My favourite track was little drummer boy...i love what rosie says at the beginning....hey folks, let's not leave it to Rosie, let's all start spreading the christmas chear...(her CD is a great place to get some from)....MERRY CHRISTMAS!

First we have the obnoxious ad-libbing at the end of "Santa on the Rooftop." Then we have the unholy alliance of Rosie and Elmo. Next is Angelica from Rugrats. (I still can't believe they are still making movies.) And the final blow to my internal organs is the image conjured up of Donny Osmond getting fresh with our prurient talk show host. In all seriousness, This album has such diverse appeal that it would be tough to find someone who loved every single track. However, it should have a great deal of appeal for Rosie fans and little kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Rosie Christmas, December 1, 1999

Wonderful! Lively and the other stars on the CD were wonderful (loved Donny Osmond's duet with Rosie, of course I have been in love with Donny Osmond since I was 10!). I am glad to know the artists are donating the proceeds to charity. Elmo was adorable with his song. The Rugrats were ok -- I have an 11 year old, I know enough about Rugrats to hate them! All in all, I very much enjoy this CD. Wonderful way to get into the Christmas Spirit!

4.0 out of 5 stars good sized assortment of Christmastime duets, October 16, 2007

This review is from: Rosie Christmas (Audio CD)
Rosie O'Donnell gives us a Christmas CD with an interesting assortment of fourteen tracks, some of which work better than others. The quality of the sound is very good and there's pretty much something for everyone on this CD.

Rosie and Cher (well, mostly Cher) do a great job with their duet of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." This somewhat melancholy number gets a dance beat flavor to it as Cher delivers every note to perfection. Cher sings with great sensitivity and passion; and Rosie does her share to make the ballad a solid number. Love that percussion! The mixing on "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" reflects a great deal of effort. Great! "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" features Billy Joel and Rosie doing their best for this duet. Billy sings with a panache I rarely hear and enjoy; and Rosie again contributes her best for this classic Christmastime ballad from Meet Me In St. Louis. The piano on this number is very beautiful, too.

"Do You Hear What I Hear?" is a cute number by Rosie with the voice of Elmo from Sesame Street; and Elton John joins Rosie for a beautiful rendition of "White Christmas." Elton never sounded better; and the piano arrangement along with the strings work wonders for this duet. Rosie's voice sounds better on this track did it does on the other tracks; perhaps this range and key work better for Rosie.

One reviewer noted that Rosie and Lauryn Hill wrecked "Little Drummer Boy," so I wanted to listen closely to this number. I was not surprised: if you like rap and/or hip hop, you'll like this rendition of "Little Drummer Boy." The overall sound and flavor are not as bad as I had feared; but the arrangements are a sharp departure from the versions many people are more accustomed to hearing.

Donny Osmond does a fine job with Rosie on "Winter Wonderland;" the backup vocals also work well for this classic Christmastime tune. The modulations are interesting although they don't always work. There are fast changes between major and minor keys; and some just plain sound better than others. Listen also for Rosemary Clooney to join Rosie for "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town." This tune gets a big band sound that really swings brightly as Rosemary and Rosie belt this one straight out of the ballpark.

The CD ends with Billy Porter doing a smash version of "O Holy Night." The musical arrangement stuns me with its beauty; and Billy delivers this with great sensitivity and all his heart. The choir works well. What a strong ending for this album!

The liner notes include awesome artwork and we get the song credits.

In sum, this Christmas CD from Rosie O'Donnell and the other artists has a few bumpy moments although the vast majority of the music works very well. I recommend this CD for people who are comfortable with more recent, less traditional renditions of Christmas songs. Fans of the artists on this CD may want to check it out, too.

Four stars. (Three and one-half stars if you don't like Lauryn Hill's style.)

I did see the TV special. This was very upbeat and for a change it puts people in a great holiday mood. Old and young alike can find something on the CD. Rosemary Clooney and Elmo what a hoot. Rosie did it again.
