Book Description

October 1998 11 and upBiography (Lerner Hardcover)
Though her road to success was not smooth, Rosie O'Donnell never lost sight of her dreams, her goals, or her sense of humor. Rosie has taken on many roles, but her most important role to date is that of being a mother. In this personal look at the "Queen of Nice," Rosie endures the hard life of the comedy circuit, befriends superstar Madonna, and finally meets her lifelong idol and inspiration, Barbra Streisand. Fun and down-to-earth, this biography takes you inside the life of a talented and lovable celebrity.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8?A book tie-in to the A & E series "Biography." The text reads like a narration of the TV series, and the result is a breezy, interesting look at a pop-culture icon. Krohn details her subject's rise from stand-up comic to movie star and variety-show host. She also provides glimpses into O'Donnell's personal life?a childhood marked by the tragic death of her mother, and the fulfillment she has found in her two adopted children. Full-color and black-and-white photographs give some glimpses of the media star's early life and career. The book is well documented with extensive source notes, including a personal interview with O'Donnell, giving it a veracity and immediacy lacking in most biographies for young people. A comprehensive filmography and helpful index are appended.?Tim Wadham, Dallas Public Library, TX
