Wonderful true story about Rosie, a Tibetan Terrier who lives in New York City with the author, Stephanie Calmenson.Rosie is trained as a special working dog who is also lovable, kind and compassionate. This special story about Rosie's life conveys to children the value of companionship, trust and care for those who are either ill, eldery or less fortunate than others.Rosie's training is explained on a level children will understand and enjoy. The photographs are genuine and authentic.Read this one to your children or have them read it- they will want to know more about dogs such as Rosie.A wonderful book for those with dogs, a real experience for those without.

This review is from: Rosie: A Visiting Dog's Story (Hardcover)
This book is a really beautiful story of the training, work and rewards of a visiting dog. Rosie is a black and white fluffy dog who is trained to be a friend-in-need to people who are ill or institutionalized. Wonderful text and art-quality photographs. Appeals to kids (even 12 year old boys!) and adults. Shows kindness and love in a true story. Highly recommended!

A wonderful non-fiction read aloud about elementary children's favorite topic - dogs. Interesting information and a lively presentation. Excellent animal book with color illustrations. Recommended for students from K through the 4th grade, as well as the teachers and parents.

"Roie the Visiting Dog" is well written and has lots of good pictures. I planned to use it in my work as part of a therapy team with my 2 dogs (certified 2nd level READ dogs) as well as in my volunteer work as a humane ambassador through reading. It's a good tool, but it's too difficult for most 1-3 graders to read on their own and just misses the mark a little on the humane issue. If I had not read or used another book called "Sheila the Therapy Dog" first, I wouold've given Rosie 5 stars. It's a good book and I will use it - it's just that there is another book out there that is a little bit better. If you want to use this book to read to your children or have an older child read, I would highly recommend it.

Providing comfort through the use of pet therapy is an up and coming phenomena. This book goes through the training and preparation of a pet therapy dog and owner is a fun way that children will love. Dogs can help alleviate lonliness to the senior citizen, entertainment to the hospitialized child and comfort to the hurting. This book is an entertaining way of showing how the loving nature of dogs can be utilized to help human beings. Everybody wins, the dog, the handler and the client! Thank you for this wonderful book, that is a great way to show adults as well as children all about pet therapy. My kudos to the author.

This is a terrific little book about how a woman helped her dog learn to help others feel better. The photographs are really good and the short narrations are well written. Rosie encourages and comforts elderly and young people. Rosie is a Tibetan Terrier. I think I want a Rosie of my own!
