4.0 out of 5 stars An easy-to-read anthology for the young and the not so young
I was asked to review this book for the Meda P. Washington Book Club (A school for expectant mothers in the St. Louis Public Schools). The librarian wanted a selection for February and thought that this might be appropriate for the ladies.

First, I must admit... I'm not a true romance novel reader. However, after seeing Rosie's Weave and Curl on the BlackBoard Bestseller list for months, I decided to check out Rosie's Weave and Curl to see what I might be missing.

I was asked to review this book for the Meda P. Washington Book Club (A school for expectant mothers in the St. Louis Public Schools). The librarian wanted a selection for February and thought that this might be appropriate for the ladies.

I found the anthology appropriate and an easy book to read with a messasge for living carefully woven through the pages of each story but was not "preachy". The ladies of Meda P. will definitely enjoy this book. If you are a widow, widower, under thirty, over fifty, blue color, white color, male or female, you will see yourself in one of these four stories. No story was predictable; two of them had a twist that was not revealed until the last page. The authors not only did an excellent job of describing New York, Harlem and the surrounding area. You also knew that they were all familiar the happenings in a beauty shop.

Read and enjoy!

First, I must admit... I'm not a true romance novel reader. However, after seeing Rosie's Weave and Curl on the BlackBoard Bestseller list for months, I decided to check out Rosie's Weave and Curl to see what I might be missing.

Rosie's Weave and Curl was a compilation of Four Short Stories/Novellas centered around Rosie's Beauty Salon. Short Stories addressed love issues for everyone...the over 50 crowd, young love, love between white collar & blue collar and love for a humble duckling type.

These Love Stories were very predictable, however, they allowed you to sample the works of four different romance authors and for one who's not a true romance reader, like me, none of the stories were so long that I lost interest.

Rosie's Curl and Weave didn't convert me to a romance novel reader, however, the stories were enjoyable, and a change of pace for a rainy day, the beach, or my urge to sample the romance novel arena. If you're not sure you like romance, but like love stories with happy endings, then stop by Rosie's Curl and Weave where you just might fall in love!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good collection of stories, March 31, 2001

I really enjoyed the short story style in which the book was written. All the stories were good but I really enjoyed Just Like That by Donna Hill. It was a good quick read

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Read., December 22, 1999

I enjoyed reading this books. Written by four talented authors, you will feel as though you are right in the salon shop watching all of the action. You are placed in the world of the handsome, stylish 50'ish year old owner of the salon who discovers fervor where there is dormancy, the ego inflated - Ms. All That - assistant manager who falls in love with someone not of her ilk, the artist with a heart of gold who brings a shy wall flower into full bloom, and the bank executive who can't get the delivery man out of her space. I only wish that the authors will get together and right another book of this kind. It was fun reading it. I gave it fours stars because there should be a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want to get my 'DO' done here!, September 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rosie's Curl And Weave (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. I love the dedication that the employees had to the shop and to Rosie's memory. I love the way everybody fell in love. I felt like I was in the shop and I was watching everybody become beautiful. I thought it was good to read a book by a black author that is not about everybody getting dogged. It was fairy taleish but I loved that even more. The book gives us love to dream about rather than a place in the dumps where we have already been. There is something for everyone, young love, middle aged love and the one that touched me the most, love after we have lost the one we love most.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, though trite and predictable., July 24, 1999
This review is from: Rosie's Curl And Weave (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed these stories although, in the end, was extremely disappointed by their predictability and lack of depth. I was initially drawn by the concept of their being connected via Rosie's salon, yet the thread was barely visible. The first story, by far the most substantial of the four, set the tone, and none of the subsequent stories followed through. The least enjoyable and most unrealistic story was the second one. I felt no connection to, or empathy for, any of these people, and if not for the fact that the cover of the book portrayed Black women, I could have been reading about White people. And the salon - I would give my eyeteeth to find a salon such as this for ordinary women. Hopefully, it was the short story format which constricted these authors' creativity, because I enjoyed the stories and would like to sample more of their craft with more complex, fleshed-out characters and storylines. I would definitely recommend it as a light read, though, for the beach or a plane ride, etc.

This book was ok. It is predictable. There was not a whole lot of questions about what would end up happening next.

I loved all of the stories. The name change of the people who work in the salon was confusing.

1.0 out of 5 stars book for 40+, October 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rosie's Curl And Weave (Mass Market Paperback)
the storyline is this book is good if you are over 40 and can relate to the characters. Its about a bunch of middle-aged people trying to get their grove back. It was boring to me because I couldn't relate. I'm not a widower, nor am I a plus size woman, and I don't really care for the beauty shop gossip scene.
