TOP-NOTCH CHEESE PLANE - THAT'S PLAIN TO SEE!,
This review is from: Rösle 12738 Cheese Plane (Kitchen)
Made in Germany this 9" stainless steel cheese plane is both handsome and utilitarian. We've had great good fortune slicing Cheddar, Parmesan, and other hard cheeses. The plane is certainly sturdy and light enough to be easily used. A handle, approximately 4" long and 1/2" in diameter, fits nicely into the palm of your hand. It comes from the dishwasher looking shiny new, and has a handy hanging loop at the tip of the handle.

I got sucked in by the reviews and the beauty of the stainless steel. But, this cheese plane is a joke if you have ever used a Spar made in Norway. And, by the way, the Norwegians invented the cheese plane. They have forgotten more about making cheese planes than anyone else will ever know. I should have gotten a Spar and that is what I will do.Why would anyone want to serve raggedy cheese to a guest with this serrated blade? Didn't realize it was serrated when I ordered it. And if the blade on the plane is sharp enough you don't need a serrated edge anyway. I tried this on hard and soft cheese and was not pleased with the presentation of any of them. I am replacing a 40 year old cheese plane that has a damaged handle and can't be repaired. I thought maybe this Rosle was the one, but it doesn't slice off thin wisps of cheese that you can almost see through. Increase the pressure on my old cheese plane and it slices a nice thin piece, not a hunk or something that looks like it came through a grinder. I gave it one star because I liked the handle. Too bad it won't fit on my old plane.

my husband got tired of the wire cheese slicer and we sprang for this one. it slices the cheese to a perfect thickness and doesn't bend with the cheese, warm or cold, hard or soft. we're really quite pleased.

Enables very thin slices due to the serrated edge. NOTE: this product is NOT made in Germany as listed. It is made in CHINA

Rosle disappoints,

Handsome indeed. And feels great in the hand. However, I ended up returning this because the blade is serrated. Result is, of course, grooves in each slice of cheese. May not bother some people but, at that price, it's bothersome to me.

the cheese plane works well, cuts nice thin even slices. takes pressure well. high quality construction. looks nice and modern. I throw it into the dishwasher with no issues. my biggest complain is really to do with the price... $30+ for this product is really pricy, when you consider the relative cost of say microplanes etc.

This cheese plane has to be used with caution. I injured myself when using it for the first time when the sharp spike of the plane slipped into my palm.
