This thing doesn't work very well - crushes tomatoes rather than slicing them and pushes the cheese down into the spaces in the base piece instead of making clean separations. I'm back to slicing tomatoes with a sharp knife and cheese with a wire slicer.

I was very skeptical when I bought this product, but I hate to slice tomatoes and so I figured I'd give it a chance. I had hoped the slicer would work as advertised, but I suspected it would actually squash the tomato and make a mess. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it works wonderfully. The slices are uniform, the tomato retains its shape, and even the small amount of juice is contained within the slicer. You don't even have to take out a cutting board or wipe the counter afterward. I couldn't be more pleased with this product, and I highly recommend it. Just be careful when cleaning. It's very sharp!

The Rosle tomato and (fresh only) mozzarella slicer quickly makes perfect slices that will surely impress your guests! Like other Rosle products this is superbly made. The slicer which really does work great on tomatoes along with the softer fresh mozzarella is handy for BLT sandwiches or hamburgers.

I strugged for years slicing fresh mozzarella with less than perfect results and this product delivers! I also was amazed to find it on Amazon and to get it in only 2 days since this past year, I had searched high and low after reading about it on the Rosle web page and none of the stores had it in stock or on line or else their web site stated it was available but it wasn't when I called. I now check Amazon first when I want something-hey it seems like yesterday when they just carried books.

If you enjoy Caprese salad as much as I do you won't be dissapointed. Just remember not to let other people use it to slice regular, hard mozzarella or it may break-fresh mozzarella and tomatoes only-well, I suppose hard boiled eggs would also work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't do roma tomatoes, July 1, 2010

Work great on soft tomatoes, cheese and avacodoes. One of the blades bent on a roma tomatoe. I going to buy another one and be very careful with it. Does an excellent job if you don't force it.

Oops, all 3 times I tried it the tomatos were squished in to oblong mushes. Once they were ripe ...1st one squished. RT_M(read the blankin' manuel). "Oh" press with even pressure- second squish. I tried with firm tomatos, they did not splatter every where, but they did not slice. ffinally i used semi-ripe but very cold , even presure. no good, 2 more squished tomatos. it is on it's way back.

Really good quality slicer. Little on the expensive side but does slice nicely. Just remember to not press down, but slightly move slowly back & forth somewhat to slice. If you don't and just push down the tomatoe will smash and squirt, making a mess it will eventually slice but you have much more of a cleanup.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for Tomatoes Only!, August 30, 2011

I like this slicer, but you have to be careful to center it exactly over the tomato before you start or you will end up off center and it will not go all the way down into the base. I tried slicing an onion with it and bent a blade. So, Tomatoes Only! I would have bought a different slicer if I had known the limitations. Tomatoes isn't the only thing I would like to slice.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hated to slice fresh mozzarella., April 2, 2011

But then I ordered the Rosle mozzarella/tomato slicer. What a wonderful cook's tool. I've used it several times, and it works great. Exactly as advertised. The only caution I would express is that it doesn't work very well on harder cheese, including old mozzarella balls. I haven't yet tried it on tomatoes, but based on its performance with cheese, I'm sure it will do just fine.
