Well-Engineered Tongs,
By

This review is from: Rosle 12926 12-Inch Silicone Coated Locking Tongs (Kitchen)
I have several pairs of the Rosle locking tongs. I bought these silicone-tipped tongs for use with my enamel coated, Le Creuset Dutch Ovens and frying pan in order to avoid scratching the surface. As expected, they work extremely well and the silicon is grippier than some of the plastic-tipped tongs I have used in the past. Like all of the dozen or so Rosle products I have purchased (garlic press, food mill, can opener, etc.), these are well designed, precisely engineered, durable, heavy-weight products that function better than competitor's counterparts. The single-handed lock/unlock mechanism is wonderful and is why I purchased my first set of Rosle locking tongs. That feature is tremendously handy and sometimes borders on invaluable when you are moving fast in the kitchen and your other hand is occupied.
One word of warning - be careful not to tilt the tongs past ninety degrees when using the Rosle locking tongs to remove hot spaghetti, fettucine or other pasta from boiling water or the boiling water will run down the inside channels of the tongs and onto your hand. In other words, keeps the tongs pointed down or slightly below horizontal when lifting the hot pasta to ensure that any hot water runs or drip down and does not flow up the inside of the tongs and onto your hand. The only downside of these tongs is the relatively high cost and the fact that these tongs, and most of the Rosle line, are now manufactured in China (hence the 4 star rating rather than 5). As to the cost, the quality of the Rosle products offsets that complaint. All the Rosle products I have purchased, used and given as gifts, are sufficiently superior that I don't object to the premium price. I just wish that they were made in Germany rather than China. If this was anything other than stainless steel, I would engage in search for a US or European made alternative. Since I am trusting that the Chinese have not yet figured out a way to incorporate lead or another harmful metal into stainless steel alloy, I have continued to purchase the stainless steel Rosle products, although I suppose that I am gambling with the Chinese-made silicone tips in this pair. In any event, these are well-made tongs but I do wish that Rosle would return to German manufacture, even if it bumped the price up a bit.

Too Clunky,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rosle 12928 9-Inch Silicone Coated Locking Tongs (Kitchen)
I love the concept of these tongs and I wanted something that would not scratch my nonstick pans. However, the rubber coating on these tongs is so thick that the tongs are awkward to use. They are really unwieldy, and even snap back to open when they have been sitting closed on the counter for minutes. This design needs to be rethought for user friendliness.

I bought these for my wife, and she absolutely loves them. Very solid feel, great in the dishwasher, and the "locking" feature (which I wasn't certain would be a positive) has proven to be very handy in picking up small pieces and making sure they stay closed when stored. Excellent product!
