Product Description

Size: Short

This new type of pestle is designed for easily squeezing juice from citrus fruit. Its concave curvature copies the shape of the fruit itself, and the distinct pyramid-shaped burls within are designed to hold limes firmly. The choice of materials used makes this tool easy to clean and extremely hygienic. For a Caipirinha (a tangy, refreshing cocktail) you need: 1 lime cut into 8 segments, 4 tsp. brown cane sugar, 2 oz. Cachaca (Pitu). Cut the lime into eight segments and squeeze them in a glass using the pestle. Add sugar and stir briskly. Then fill glass to brim with crushed ice and douse with Cachaca. Caiprinha is traditionally served with two straws..

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good for Mojitos, July 8, 2007

Pros: Great Rosle construction, great looks, and the plastic end that comes in contact with the fruit has a diamond cut pattern that helps grip the limes...a feature I now look for in my muddlers, as it really aids in extracting the oils and juices from the fruit.
Cons: It's about 3 inches too short. Even in a small 8 oz. shaker tin, I have to be cautious not to scrape my nuckles on the edge of the tin. Forget about using it in a standard 16 oz. shaker tin. So if you only do your muddling in a small rocks glass, then this is a good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I Had One Sooner!, February 1, 2008

With the Caipirinha being my favorite mixed drink, I have always used a wooden pestle/muddle, and never knew the difference - until now.

This pestle/muddle is very comfortable in the hand, and the diameter is large enough that it is easy to grasp and does not slip through the hand when applying pressure to mash the fruit.

The length is very nice, at 24cm (about 9.75 inches), which is longer that what is shown in the specs. Perhaps they have lengthened the muddle due to customer demand. I actually purchased this and another brand as I though this would be shorter in length, and I wanted one long enough to use in a shaker - no need to spend the extra money - this will take care of all your needs.

This Rosle pestle/muddle is more expensive than the 'MIU 10 inch Stainless Steel Mojito Muddler', but is different in the following ways:

*Larger diameter
*1/4 inch shorter in length
*The green head which mashes the fruit is flat on the Rosle, whereas the head on the MIU is concave, which means it will not mash quite as easily or well, but will get the job done.

I highly recommend both this Rosle and the MIU pestle/muddle. Not only do they function well, but they look very cool when you pull them out to mix up a Caipirinha for you and your friends!

This little tool is great! I use it to mash bananas for banana bread. It works really for this task and is very easy to clean! And it's attractive, too!
