He likes to eat it dry. So after researching, I bought this, and I'm so happy I did. The rotating mechanism inside that dispenses the cereal is soft enough that the cereal doesn't get pulverized. We've used everything: lucky charms, frosted mini-wheat bites, kashi's vanilla wheats. It's been a great blessing, plus it looks really cool. We keep it in our pantry, and we still get compliments on it.
The only downfall, for us, was when we first started using it, my kids would get cereal ALL the time b/c it was fun to dispense. We would have cups and baggies of dry cereal leftover. But the top of the dispenser is just a simple sealed lift, and I would just pour the uneaten cereal back in.
Another unexpected surprise is that with their typical sugary cereals, I can combine it w/Kashi Go Lean (for ex.), and they don't mind.
What I like about this is that the rubber part which feeds the cereal down appears to have wider openings than all the others I saw here on Amazon. That is a common complaint. I did try to put mini-shredded whats through it and that did NOT work. I suspected as much but had to try. It has worked great on smaller cereals. The largest we have used so far (I've had it about 2 weeks now) is frosted flakes, and that was great. It did not crush anything. It has a plastic cap/stopper that you can place on the bottom, it is not shown in this photo. We use it when not in use, because I suspect it will keep the cereal fresher. However, it is not needed to keep it from leaking. It is one large black piece that fits over both of the exit holes. The bottom piece you see, that looks like metal, comes out easily and can be dumped or washed off. My kids are in 5th and 6th grade, and it has worked great for them. I believe that kids of any age could easily use it. I love not having to pull out bags or boxes of cereal.
I think it's fabulous. It is sturdy, and easy to use. The dial that you use to dump the cereal out can be turned in both directions, so if something sticks a little (I only needed this to try to see if shredded wheats would work) you can just backtrack to control what ends up in the rubber stoppers that feed the cereal out. I assembled it myself easily and quickly--and I am TERRIBLE at putting things together so that speaks to the ease of assembly. I expect this to last a long time.
This has gotten heavy use in the 10 months or so since I purchased it.Read more ›
My small children love it, and the soft turn pedals keep your cereal from crushing. So if you have Frosted Flakes, they will NOT come out as small as Fruity Pebbles!
