A Rossini Masterpiece., September 1, 2007

This very melodious confection of faux militarism and bucolic love has some of Rossini's most beautiful music, served up in incredibly complex musical numbers, some of them fifteen or twenty minutes long. It was the "music of the future" long before Wagner. This preformance cannot be bettered. The two fiendishly difficult tenor parts are gloriously sung as are the two female leads. A must-have recording for lovers of great music and beautiful singing.
