This review is from: Rossini - La gazza ladra / Ricciarelli, Matteuzzi, Ramey, Manca di Nissa, D'Intino, Furlanetto, Gelmetti (Audio CD)
I recently read "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle" by Haruki Murakami, in which the main character spends time listening to Rossini's "The Thieving Magpie." I honestly didn't know the music. Then I saw a local concert, and they played the Overture to "La Gazza Ladra." When I heard the music, I immediately recognized it from Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange," which I had seen many times in my high school and college days. I love when things like that happen. Over a 15 year period, all of a sudden, everything fits together. So I now have the CD, and I am enjoying the entire opera immensely. Bravo!!!
