Editorial Reviews

German post-techno duo Mouse On Mars are among a growing number of electronic music groups dabbling in complex, heavily hybridized forms that include everything from ambient, techno, & dub to rock, jazz, & jungle. This CD is a first time collection of out of print & import only EPs, & includes tracks from 1997's 'Cache Coeur Naif' featuring Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier on vocals. Too Pure. 2003.

3.0 out of 5 stars only for the diehard fans who proabably already have the EPs, February 19, 2003
This review is from: Rost Pocks: Ep Collection (Audio CD)
Rost Pocks consists mainly of EP singles from MoM's first two releases, Vulvaland and Iaora Tahiti, and three of the four tracks from their EP Cache Coeur Naif with Laetitia Sadier from stereolab (the instrumental fourth track 'glim' is not included here).

A few of the tracks are offered up in slightly different versions and there are some EP only tracks that appear as well. Noticeably absent are EPs from Niun Niggung. I would have loved to see the inclusion of the Disk Dusk or Distroia EPs. However, as most of the tracks are from MoM's earlier more mellower EP releases, this disc comes across as very laidback and downtempo-ish. Not a bad thing.

Esssentially this a disc solely for the diehard completist MoM fans (who chances are own all these EPs already). There's nothing new here. This is MoM's second release of rehashed material in the last 12 months (Agit Itter It It from March of last year being the other release). That's not a bad thing, because this is MoM and any MoM is better than no MoM but come on Andy and Jan, it's time for you guys to put out something new . . . soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mouse On Mars - Rost Pocks, February 28, 2011
This review is from: Rost Pocks: Ep Collection (Audio CD)
Too Pure, on the album ROST POCKS, collects tracks from the numerous and varied Mouse on Mars EPs. And it's quite an overview of their career, from the spacy and wiggling "Frosch" to the hectic "Twift," after which point they began releasing on their own Sonig label. Though trainspotters who already own the releases will groan, the casual listener will find this collection the motherlode. From the swinging "Bib" to the dubby "Schnee Bud," Mouse on Mars embraces the melodic ("Schnick-Schnack") as well as the noisy ("Rototon"), the experimental ("7000") and more conventional ("Lazergum"). Undoubtedly, the highlight is the delicate chanson "Cache Couer Naif" featuring the French vocals of Laetitia from Stereolab, a favorite of mine to this day. As an album, though, it lacks a certain cohesiveness, but that's somewhat to be expected, considering the format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant music, May 4, 2003
This review is from: Rost Pocks: Ep Collection (Audio CD)
This is a great CD of EPs that collected Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner's work from the mid 90s. It's a worthwhile collection of songs that make it an interesting collection of songs. They do need a bit of time to get used to but they are worth the money. Those that have the EPs already ( like the reviewer below ) may just skip buying this because they already have the songs. But those who don't and are willing to pay for this album will not be disappointed
