About the Author

In 1997, Robert joined with Karl Altstaetter as co-creator and co-writer of a series of publications for Hyperwerks Entertainment, including DEITY, SAINT ANGEL, and CATSEYE. Currently, Robert is co-directing a live-action documentary on Japanese animation entitled ANIME POP. Robert began his career producing and writing English adaptations of Japanese animation projects for release in the United States through such companies as NIPPAN and MANGA ENTERTAINMENT (L.A. Hero.) Robert has also written for such titles as AVENGELYNE, PROPHET, and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA for Image Comics.

A couple of years ago I bought the first Rostam comic book by Bruce Bahmani and Robert Napton which featured the most famous story of Persian folklore "Rostam & Sohrab". I was duly impressed and was coaxed by my kids to repeatedly read the story to them over and over again. They loved it and always asked me when they could hear another story from the Shahnameh.
Well its here and we were not disappointed. I would say that the second book is in fact even better than the first. The book covers the story of how Kai-Kavous meets and falls in love with Soodabeh. Soodabeh's father (the King of Hamavaran) is incensed by this match up and it eventually leads to war between the two kingdoms. Afrasiab is of course scheming in the background and takes advantage of Kai-Kavous' weakness and tries to take over his throne. In addition, he arranges for Turaj to assassinate Rostam. All of this packed into 32 pages! The illustrations and colorings are superb and the story is fantastic. Another winner! I will be reading this story to my kids for the next several months! I only ask the Authors to please come out with the next issue as fast as possible.

Once again Rostam rides off into a world that he must protect. This time the battles are greater and the illustrations jump off the pages! Very enjoyable.

This second book in the Hyperwerks series of the tales of the hero Rostam from the Shahnameh Shahnameh: The Persian Book of Kings is even better than the first. These ancient tales resonate even today. Kids will love it.
