Amazing piece of the puzzle,
By George D. Fawcett (Lincolnton, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Roswell 1947 I was there (Paperback)
Robert J. Shirkey's book, "I Was There: Roswell 1947 (1999) was released the same week in Roswell when I participated in the ribbon cutting ceremonies for the enlarged International UFO Museum & Research Center. I am amazed at both the quality and quanity of evidence for the reality of the July, 1947 UFO crash and the recovery of both the debris and bodies at Roswell 53 years ago. Shirkey's volume is but one of the most recent and more important pieces of the puzzle being revealed at this time in UFO history and one which I would highly recommend to researchers and investigators everywhere.

A unique perspective to those of us interested in the truth,
By Robert Stote, M.D. (Gulfport, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Roswell 1947 I was there (Paperback)
RE:"July 1947 I was there"Robert Shirkey provides a unique perspective to those of us interested in the truth about the Roswell Incident. As the only member of the military with direct involvement in the Incident who was not required to take an oath of secrecy, he publicly states what he knows in "I was there." The book not only reveals much about the Incident, but also captures the patriotic feelings of Americans at that time as well as providing input from others who were dramatically affected by this incident. It is truly refreshing to finally get some facts after fifty years. I personally met with Mr. Shirkey and also viewed the video, "We Were There" featuring Mr. Shirkey and Mr. Frank Kaufmann. Taken as a whole, I now feel well informed about the Incident and would recommend both the book and video to anyone interested in the truth about Roswell. /S/ ROBERT STOTE.

The most forthright, credible, work I've read,

Dear Robert: I want to tell you again what a privilege it was to have you meet with local MUFON members at our home last December 28. The evening passed all too quickly as you gave your first-hand account of many aspects of '47 Roswell happenings.I have read your book, "Roswell 1947 I was There", and found it to be the most forthright, credible work I've read on the subject.

Disappointed,
By Chris Hoffmann (Kenthurst, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Roswell 1947 I was there (Paperback)
Some facts: (1) the paperback has 154 pages - large type and double spaced. (2) Pages 127 - 147 deal with the author's life, education and pilot training/service and have nothing to do with UFOs at Roswell. (3) a significant portion of the book is composed of conversations that the Shirkey 'invented'. Quoting Shirkey on page 19 ["The author, who did not witness these conversations among various officers, composed the narration...Military personnel will recognise that the dialogue could be true based on the actions taken and the results."]. As far as I can tell, the title of the book, "I Was There", only applies to him standing at the Operations Desk of the Roswell Air Field with Colonel Blanchard while some men walked past with cardboard boxes of ["aluminum-looking metal pieces"] and then onto a B-29 aircraft. Don't get me wrong - anything that adds to our knowledge of what happened in 1947 at Roswell is great, but this book adds very little of substance.

old stuff,

The author has not many new things to say about the Roswell incident ! To "have been there" is not enough to make a good book. Very quickly read and deeply disapointing. I'd better keep my money for something else !

Interesting, informative, and enlightening...Read this book.,

Having read this book, I feel that I have a better idea of what may have happened in the Roswell area in 1947. I have read many books and articles and heard many speakers about the crash, but now I got to read the testimony of someone who has been there. Why would he lie about it. He has verified much of what has been written already and has added information that hasn't been known. I found the book very interesting and informative. Every serious researcher of this phenomena should read this book and then draw his or her own conclusions.

Dear Bob and Joan - - - 31 August 1999.. I bought a copy of your book, "Roswell 1947 I was there" at the UFO Museum in Roswell in July. I have read it three times and I may read it two or three more times. Your book is excellent. Two years ago I wrote a letter on June 26, 1997, to the Editor of the Roswell Daily Record. It was printed. I remarked about knowing Walter Haut, Glen Dennis, Frank Kaufmann and Bob Shirkey for over 50 years. I said then: ".... they are reputable and truthful men. They are not going to fib about anything or prevaricate and distort the truth about the 1947 Roswell Incident. I believe them and what they say happened in 1947 really did happen in 1947." And now, Bob, I have not changed my thinking in the last two years, and your book proves me correct. SIGNATURE: RICHARD G. BEAN - P.A.- ATTORNEY AT LAW 115 WEST 12TH ST.,ROSWELL NM 88201

New twists on the much-publicized Roswell Incident based on the unfiltered truth by a credible author. This book will challenge you to re-examine your beliefs about "craft of unknown origin", and to re-process what you've read, watched and heard about the Roswell Incident. Even for those familiar with the Roswell Incident, this is a captivating read - and for the uninitiated, a fascinating book. BUY IT, READ IT, WATCH THE VIDEO, and post your review - I'd love to read what YOU think about this book.

I met Robert Shirkey at a Roswell Convention and found him to be real and up-front with his information. I returned 1 year later to interview him for 3 days. He is a piece of this puzzle and extremely valuable to the entire picture. Anyone who feels this book didn't give them enough of a story, missed the value in his information. He didn't write a movie script with a desire to entertain you. He just put down his involvement in this incident and it helps anyone who is looking for answers to bring more pieces into the mix. I drove back from Roswell to Los Angeles, reading this book to my family who loved it and learned more about Mr. Shirkey's involvement in the Roswell's 509th Bomb Squad and his business on the base that no other book has educated me in. Robert Shirkey WAS there and readers of this book were NOT. The message is good and I recommend to never shoot the messenger.

Mr. Shirkey did a nobil act be telling of his experiences during the time of the UFO crash, However, the book gets too far away from the actual incident, I felt. On a personal basis I had trouble too many times holding interest...
