3.0 out of 5 stars 5/5 for the set, 1/5 for the useless repackaging
Of all 3 seasons of Roswell, the second is my favorite. The first was more of Dawson's Creek with a sci-fi twist and the third just got too weird, but season 2 was near perfection. The story arcs are wonderful, and the addition of Emilie de Ravin to the main cast might have been the best thing to happen to Roswell. Plus, the widescreen presentation gives a great...

Only Roswell Fanatics new and old may be able to understand my post...I have never been a "Fanatic" of ANY show and could never really understand why people could get so worked up about fictional shows...until Roswell...I am 25yrs old and have lived a pretty safe & boring life (my bar & clubbing days don't seem that interesting anymore). When the first episode aired, I watched it and was instantly hooked!!! You get so immersed in this show while watching it that everything else fades away until the hour is over. I actually felt like going to visit New Mexico, see what it is like there. In a stupid way, I wanted to visit the "crashdown" café and "see" Maria, Liz, Michael, Max, etc. I wanted to research on the theory behind the real Roswell story. I wanted to know EVERYTHING Roswellian. I finally began to see that there is a bigger and more incredible world out there. It made me a believer that there are thing in this universe that doesn't have an explanation to it and it's ok. This show (can you believe it) made me feel like I have not lived life yet and that there is so much more to life...to live and see.

The sweet innocent (not cheesy at all!) soul mate love of Max & Liz is incredible. Max is calm, silent, and compassionate but can really be strong when he need to...Liz is smart, sweet, interesting and loyal. I can so relate to the character of Liz. I can't put it into words; you have to see to understand. I wonder if I will be able to ever find a love like that?

Although I am a HUGE Max & Liz fan, there is actually a couple that on that show that made my heart beat (just a little bit) more for them...and that is Michael & Maria. Michael is dark, brooding and complicated (love that in a man lol), Maria (Liz's best friend) is the opposite...she is quirky, open and sarcastically honest. She was the comedic relief of Roswell. I knew they should be together the moment when Isabel, Max and Michael were eating lunch and Isabel was saying something to the effect that her and Maria were so different. When Maria saw them she tripped and fell (that had me LOL!) and Michael said that girl was weird. That moment I thought they would make an awesome couple! Yes he was downright rude to her sometimes that I just want to slap him...but he's had a rough life and he doesn't know how to show affection very well. Maria had a lot of affection, so it kind of balanced them...SPOLIER...SPOILER...(for season three)...didn't like what happened to Michael & Maria in Season three. Maria became very cold and unlike herself. She wasn't the person that I have watched grown in Roswell. It made me wonder what happened for her love for Michael?

The rest of the cast is great too...Isabel who is Max sister is beautiful (as is most of the cast IMO), cool, aloof...yet has a certain vulnerability to her...Alex (Liz & Maria dear friend who also has a crush on Isabel) is a little nerdy but downright sweet, kind and a true and loyal friend...Sheriff Valenti is tough, smart, doesn't always realize his actions have consequence but in the end you can see his heart was in the right place...Kyle (Sheriff Valenti's son) was kind of an ass in the beginning but turned out to be a really cool, down to earth guy.

Roswell is a great show and I highly recommend it to everyone. Every time I hear Dido's song (theme song for the show), I thought of Roswell and it makes me very sad that the show is no longer on air. It has such promise to be one of the best shows on tv! I can't wait for season 2 to come out!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "What's so great about normal?", July 29, 2004

This TV series is anything but normal, but what's so great about normal anyway? As any true Roswellian fan would respond, "Absolutely nothing!". "Roswell" was the first TV show I've ever know that had this amazing balance of sci-fi action and drama (especially in the first two seasons). Why? Because the actors pulled it off! The talented cast portrayed sincere emotional performances within a web of confusing, far-reached circumstances that made their stories and romances so real. This show does not only deal with the every day dilemmas of love-angst teens, but issues surrounding the aliens: Max, Isabelle, Tess and Michael and their search for their "real home". What these aliens discover is that home is not necessarily where you are from, or what one thinks is best for you, home is where you make it. Season 2, explores this journey with the aliens and the humans, where relationships are tested, friendships and trusts are destroyed, but most importantly, where they discover not just where they belong but with who they belong. Season 2 is an amazing follow-up to the spectacular Season 1. It will have you thinking, turning in one direction than the next, it will have you feeling hurt, sorrow, anger and redemption. I won't say more because I don't want to give to much away (like some have done in previous reviews)but know that you will enjoy every look, every discovery snd every adventure this story takes you. For those of you who have already seen Season 1, I don't need to convince you, you're already hooked!

4.0 out of 5 stars Self-Slapping, August 22, 2004
This review is from: Roswell - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
I never saw an episode of Roswell at all during it's WB or UPN tenures. At that time, I was working a job that usually occupied my nights, so unless it was Buffy, Ally McBeal or Friends (or something like South Park or Sex And The City that was on cable and repeated during post-prime time hours), chances are I didn't watch it if it aired between 1998-2002.

About a year ago, I was bored and found my roommate watching a marathon Roswell on Sci-Fi, he knew the show from it's WB days, he talked me into watching an episode with him... and as he got ready for work, I found myself watching the entire 5 hour block of episodes... and then I found out season one was shortly coming to DVD. I kept taping the Sci-Fi daily marathons and bought season 1 asap, and I was able to finish the entire season in barely over a week. I've seen all 61 episodes and without hesitation would say that after Buffy (my all time favorite series), Roswell is definately the second best show WB has ever aired.

Unlike most high school dramas, this show really had great characters, and the series was all about the ensemble. Even though Max and Liz were the central couple of the series, you found yourself just as fascinated with Michael, Maria, Alex, Isabel, Kyle and Sheriff Valenti. I was never crazy about the character Tess, and unfortunately season 2 has way too much of her. Season 2 is probably my least favorite of the 3 seasons because she got on my last nerve. My favorite character is Maria.

I love the characters, love the atmosphere. I have never been to New Mexico, but from watching Roswell, I feel like I know what it must be like (even tho I know it was filmed in California).

Definately a must-buy DVD come October 5.

Thank you Jason Katims for turning a small book franchise into a wonderful series, and thank you Fox for preserving this series on DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars 40's something fan, August 28, 2004
This review is from: Roswell - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
I am a newcomer to "Roswell". I never saw an episode while it was on WB or UPN. I was working crazy hours and never knew the show existed. I am a SciFi fan and was checking the channel last month and found Roswell. After the first episode of the all day marathon i watched, i was hooked. I sat and watched 4 shows that aired that day. I have taped every episode since. I found that season one was on DVD and bought it. Can't wait for the second season to come out.
I have always been a fan of science fiction, (I am still a big fan of the X-files& Star Trek TNG)and interested in the Roswell Crash site. So, this show had my attention.
I love the characters and the friendships they form. It's a show that you can really get immersed in and forget your troubles for awhile. I really like Max and Liz, but my favorites are Michael and Maria.
Roswell is a wonderful show and it saddens me that there were only three seasons. The series deserved more than just three seasons. I hope the rumors are true about a movie in the works with the original cast members.

5.0 out of 5 stars Those Little Pod People..., August 8, 2004

This review is from: Roswell - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
The first time I fell across Roswell, it was the beginning of the second season, and in those first few minutes I couldn't seem to wrap my head around it...but I kept coming back to watch the show again and again. Roswell placed you into the lives of six whacky teenagers-three of which are aliens- and allowed you a glimpse into their crazy alien adventures and personal lives. When the first season was released on DVD I bought it, and loved it, and before the show was cancelled, I made sure to tune in every monday to watch the rest of the second and then the entire third season. The series was suspenseful and funny, I believe that in the second season, the writing was at it's best and the chemistry of the group at it's highest, making it my favorite season. I can't wait for it to be released on DVD, and look forward to buying it and enjoying it just as much as when the show was on the air.

ROSWELL has impressed me to no end. I avoided it when it was on television, and caught the first DVD set and was blown away. The first season was simple, had a lot of concentration on the love story, and set the stage for something more dark and intense by its season finale. Well ... Season Two picks up 3 months after the first, and things definitely pick up into a fever pitch quickly. The teen aliens now have to deal with new enemies (including ones from space), and grapple with their destinies and assigned roles. Everybody feels the ripples of their discoveries in that first season, and nothing gets resolved until the very last episode.

I am troubled by the music replacement (gone are Gomez, U2 and Coldplay), but the show is arguably strong as ever. The big thing in this second season is a real shift in tone. Many of the romance elements are lost in favor of some serious Science Fiction / Action episodes. I noticed a lot of the directors seem to come from BUFFY and ANGEL, so that explains a lot of the focus on action. There are fewer commentaries in this set, but a bit more features (sorta balances that). These are great characters, acted very well by a group of good-looking and truly wonderful actors. The scripts vary, but for the most part remain quite strong throughout. It has many connections to STAR TREK (even one of its producers was a NEXT GENERATION cast member). And it also seems to owe a great deal to DAWSON'S CREEK (the romance and teen issues) and BUFFY (the action and mystery as well as fantasy). Yet it is still its own unique blend of all of these elements in a very outstanding show. Brilliant and fun!

Plus, the widescreen presentation gives a great theatrical feel to the show. The only thing that bugs me is that I don't get why Fox had to re-release these sets, other than being another way to suck money out of loyal fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Romance, February 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Roswell - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
I did not follow this series and decided to take a chance and bought the first and second seasons on DVD and I just finished viewing both seasons. It is pure magic... Romance... Romeo and Juliet of modern times. It is not often that you find a series that captivate you like Roswell. I recommend it to anyone that would love a mix of romance and sci-fi. It is very unique! I can't wait for the third season now, but at the same time it is sad that they only made three seasons.

LeftManOut (TheCityThatNeverSleeps, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Roswell - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
Season One was classic. It's the one we all love. It had the beginnings and the mystery. Still I think Season two is just as good. I mean Season one is my favorite (and probably the best) but season two has just as many memorable moments and happenings as the first. It takes the romance and sci-fi action of the first season to a completely new level, which is awesome. Some of the best episodes are in the second season, and a lot of important things in the story happen, like Alex's death, Tess's betrayal, the transaltion of the book that Max, Micheal, Isabel and Tess have been trying to read forever, Valenti lossing his badge and so many more.

Season two's story is just so engaging. I think Tess adds so much to the cast, even though you probably hate her (as does everyone else). The story in season one was just mainly eluding cops and federal agents, but season two has so much more. Max and the others aren't just trying to keep their identies hidden from the public, they also have to deal with other aliens, like the skins, who are trying to destroy them. They are also trying to figure out a way to get back home. Max and Liz's relationship is severely strained, as Liz realizes Max is meant to be with Tess, and then distances herself from him. There's even an episode where a Max from the future comes and tells Liz she must help Max fall in love with Tess, or the world will end. That's probably what eventually leads Max to impregnate Tess (accidentally mind you). Max then sees flashes that his child can not survive in earth's atmosphere (in season three you find out those flashes were fake, and Tess was just mind warping him so that he would have to go back to Antar), so he knows that they must all return to their home planet. Right before they leave though, Alex is killed. Liz won't believe it was a suicide, and eventually uncovers that Tess did it. Max is disgusted with her and Tess ends up being the only one to return to their planet. Max holds Liz in his arms as the final episode ends, and we have to wait until the third and final season of the show to find out all the true answers.

Season two is still a great season. You can't have one without the other, and I recommend of course buying season one first so that all of it makes sense. Much like the first season, some of the music in some places has been changed due to copyright laws, so that's the one downer. Other than that everything is perfect, and you will undoubtably watch the episodes again and again now that you have them on DVD, and no longer need all those VHS tapes you taped the show on. Have fun and enjoy this til season three gets here. Keep fighting for the Roswell movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Season two is my favorite season!, October 3, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Roswell - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
Season two had the best blend of sci-fi and romance and some of the best episodes of the series. If you preferred the first 16 episodes of season one, then you may not love season two as much...

However, if you liked season one but thought it really took off with the final six episodes, then you will most likely appreciate season two which was wonderfully intense. From the first episode to the last, the stakes are much higher for everyone. The characters really go through a lot, and it's interesting to watch how they deal with everything.

Some of my favorite episodes are End of the World, Wipeout, Max in the City, A Roswell Christmas Carol, How the Other Half Lives, Viva Las Vegas, Heart of Mine, Cry Your Name and Departure. This season really doesn't have any filler episodes, which makes it more fast-paced and entertaining.

Max and Liz have a rocky road, but continue to love each other through the whole thing, and rest assured that everything comes to a very satisfying conclusion by the end of season three.

Buy the DVDs and enjoy one of the best shows ever! I miss it terribly and hope they continue it with a movie or preferably some mini-series.
