5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this recipe book! October 4, 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is actually all three of Judy Hopkins previous books combined for the cost of only one!!! (Around the Block, Around the Block Again, & Once More Around the Block) This is NOT a how to book. You need to KNOW how to SEW and have basic quilting background. These patterns are meant to be ROTARY cut! Here you will find a color example of the block and then you will have a diagram that shows the basic construction in MINIMAL detail but the most excellent part is that you are given VARIOUS size blocks. You need 6" blocks fine, 12" blocks no problem. There is a HUGE reason why the original books are all sold out and selling for greater than the cover, it is because the patterns are solid. You need this book, use it for centers, swaps, borders, and you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Never run out of ideas December 21, 2008
Format:Paperback
Have you ever been stymied on what block to use to make a quilt? Do you have a special fabric but no pattern to use? Then 501 ROTARY-CUT QUILT BLOCKS is just the book for you. My guild makes charity quilts and the gals are always looking for a different pattern to use so t his book will get a lot of use by us.

It starts out with a six page explanation on how to use the block patterns and jumps right in with a block called Boy's Nonsense to explain how to read the charts which have several block sizes. This is a nice feature as you can "grow" or "shrink" a quilt to your needs. The charts also have a "try this" line which gives you an alternative colorway suggestion. Cutting variations, tips for specialty blocks, making multiple blocks and calculating yardage is also included in this section.

The next 17 pages are colored pictures of each block in the book. They each show the block name and the page it can be found on. The last 9 pages are the templates needed to create the blocks. The rest of the book shows the charts for making each block. This includes a black and white picture of the block, a block that shows the letter templates used to create the block and an exploded picture of the block which shows you how to assemble it.

I will put this book in my rolling sewing tote so I am sure to have it each time our guild meets. Get one for yourself or buy one for a quilting friend. You or they won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars 501 ROTARY-CUT QUILT BLOCKS April 8, 2009
Format:Paperback
I've used Judy Hopkins "Around The Block" books for many years. I can always find a block to inspire me and I know that I can count on the accuracy of the directions. When asked at a guild meeting which book I'd keep if I had to get rid of all my quilt books except one, without hesitation I said it would be one of the "Around The Block" books. I couldn't choose which one. Now, with all three books in one, the answer is clear. I highly recommend 501 ROTARY-CUT QUILT BLOCKS.
