Short Straps,
This review is from: Rothco Black Canvas Outfitter Rucksack (Sports)
I run about 6'-3", 250, so I bought this pack because it is much wider than the typical backpack. It would be wide enough to make me look less silly if only I could get it on. Even adjusted all the way out the shoulder straps are ridiculously short. I would say this should go in the kids section, not the men's section.
Apart from this, the bag is of quality manufacture and looks sharp. I'm keeping it around to give to my kid for school - he'll have the coolest bookbag around.

Great product, but if you get it you have to know it doesn't works under rain because of the fabrique. Pockets with zipper are not really zipped.

The main reason I bought this was because the advertisement stated it had zippered pockets. IT DOES NOT. Small items placed in these pockets will easily fall out if rucksack is tipped onto side. It is a very heavy duty well constructed canvas rucksack but IT DOES NOT HAVE ZIPPERED POCKETS as advertised.

I bought this backpack for my son and a week after school started the metal tabs at the end of the straps had fallen off, which means every time he puts it on the adjustable straps do not stay in place and he ends up having to carry it rather then wear it on his back. The straps also are now completely unraveled and this backpack is useless less then a month into the school year, we have already had to purchase a new backpack.

We picked this item up June 9th, the same time we had purchased a canteen and shoulder-sling. This Black Canvas Outfitter
Rucksack works well for us. Our little hiking trips to the mountains during the summer - we found this item to be just right for our needs. It is very durable and fits us well and we are 6'1" 195lbs. We were not looking for anything waterproof. We were not looking for zippered compartments. This is what we were looking for. Everything we need to take along with us, finds itself easily in one of the clasp closure compartments. Extra shirts, and an entire change of clothing for our daughter - dresses, underclothes, socks, and shoes. Natural insect repellant, and medicine all fit very nicely inside this dependable and durable sack. (It holds two pair of shoes, two shirts, 2 dresses for the daughter, 2 dresses for the wife, underthings for the daughter all very comfortably.) It may not suit everyone the same as it does for us, but if you want something durable, not waterproof, and no zippers this might just suit you well. Read up on the description of the product, and judge for youself. Do not go entirely upon everything you read - that is to say the reviews. Again, this may or may not work for you. You make the choice. We can recommend it, only if you are doing some hiking, bikinng, &c like we use it. If that is the case then you may have found the right pack for you.

I'm a small woman, 5'3", and this pack is almost to small for me to wear even with the straps all the way extended. Probably great for a little kid but not an adult. Though it is well made it's just not for anyone with broad shoulders.

I guess for the price this bag is alright. It's big and holds plenty of items, but doesn't look bulky. The top compartment with zipper is great. However, the bag bled black die on items I put inside. This was fixed by washing the bag, but then there were whitish spots where the dye had bled out. The arm straps connect at the bottom with a buckle, but the buckle didn't hold well and the straps often came undone. I fixed this by wrapping electrical tape around the end of the straps to make them thicker so they didn't slip through the buckle. The front pouch has a zipper which is great, but mine now has a hole in it at the top where it connects to the body of the bag. I've sowed this up. Also, I will admit that I've had a lot of weight in this bag, but the right shoulder strap started to come undone at the top where it connects to the body of the bag and I needed to resew that, which I've done. I've had the bag about a month and a half. So, while this bag is only $25, you might want to spend a little more on a bag that works better, doesn't fall apart or bleed dye. I gave it three stars--although if I could I'd give it 2.5--because of it's cost, size and the zipper compartments and because all the above mentioned faults were able to be fixed. If you're looking for a bag that you won't carry a lot of weight in, this should work fine.

I want to like this back pack, I really do. It has tons of space, it's sturdy, and has handy pockets sewn on externally to the bag so that it adds more space rather than dividing up the bags internal space. The problem with this bag is the straps; they feel like they are attached at the wrong spots. I'm not a big guy, I'm closer to the thinner side of average, but this bag is a pain to get on and off, and it doesn't sit right once it is on. It distributes its weight load awkwardly so that it always feels top heavy even when there is hardly anything in it. It's not so terrible that the bag is unusable, but it's constantly noticeable. This bag was not designed with ergonomics in mind, if it had been it would be a 5-star bag.

Before making this purchase, I had read everyone else's comments; I have to say that this rucksack is just what the description says (several people had left comments about the lack of "as advertised" zippers - perhaps the description has been updated since then). It is made from heavy-duty canvas, and relatively well-built (I did have an issue with one of the drawstring grommets popping off, however).
As Mr. Toad stated in his review, the shoulder straps ARE a little short; but as I'm rather slender at 5'6" and 130lbs I had no problem with this. |
