If you think you buying a product wth legendary SOG involved-forget it! Just a huge stamp "Taiwan", or so to say made in china will tell you what to expect. All I can say about this knife-this is a TOTAL GARBAGE. Do not waste your money. I just can't believe first reviewer is saying about some "avid knife enthusiast" approval. Blade is made of steel-this is true, but so cheap that the tip of this "knife" bended falling on my concrette garage floor from not even 3ft(three)!!! No wonder they did not say what kind of steel used. Handle is not aligned with the blade and one side is like 1/4 inch thiker then the other. Knife was totally useles after my fist camping trip. It did not brake, but after sharpening a few sticks and splitting some wood for camping fire it wouldn't probably cut even butter. This is my second product with Rothco name and second total disapointment. If you see Rothco-just run away.
This is an EXCELLENT knife. It is a very good quality blade, made of high-carbon steel. I showed it to my uncle, who is an avid knife enthusiast. He owns what is possibly the best knife I have ever held or seen in person. He was impressed with this blade, even more so when I told him the price, stating that it was definitely not a cheap knife as you would think.
I will say this however, the knife I was sent did not match the picture. It is coated in an anti-shine matte black finish. It is also missing the blood groove carved into the original picture. It also feels a bit long to me, as if the knife has been stretched just slightly.
Overall it is an EXCELLENT knife, far better quality than the price implies. It came with a very decent edge already, and I was able to hone it to a razors edge, with my uncle's guidance, in a few hours. I took a risk on this knife when I first bought it, but now I am VERY glad that I did.
This knife is well constructed with a reasonably sharp edge when shipped. It holds well in the hand and is balanced pretty well also. The one down side to this knife is its leather sheaf. It does not hold the knife in place due to a poorly designed tie down strap. Find another way to replace cheap leather cover and you have got a good knife for little money !
