I thought this would be a good addition to my fairy tale collection, especially since I use a combination of text and film in my classes. This is a major dissapointment, not to mention a waste of money. We don't know if we're watching a film about werewolves or a really "cheezy" attempt at soft-porn (an attempt). In short, this has little to do with Red Riding Hood. The audio is poor, and the acting is even worse! Still, a good example of low, low budget cinema...

A very interesting adult fairy tale,
This review is from: Rotkäppchen: The Blood of Red Riding Hood (DVD)
Rotkappchen The Blood of Red Riding Hood is a film inspired by a classic fairy tale (Red Ridding Hood) and is based in a modern day society. Rose (Stefanie Geils), a 17 year old German student moved to America to live with her grandmother because Rose's mother thought that it would be a good idea. She appeared unsure about how she would fit into her new school and withdrew into a book of fairy tales which sparked her imagination into a world that seemed colorful.
She made a new friend in school name Summer (Sativa Verte) who encouraged Rose to pursue her interest in Nick (Phil Gibson), the most popular boy in school. With the help of Summer, Rose transformed herself from a homely looking young woman to a sexier look. Rose thought that Nick was good for her, and gave into her sexual desires. Unknown to Rose, Summer and the rest of the town, Nick hid a secret that shocked them all and ignited a series of gruesome and mysterious murders in their once quiet town. Nick's ex-girl friend didn't like that Nick and Rose had become close and decided to take revenge out on her. Rose saw herself as Red Riding Hood as she withdrew into her book of fairy tales to avoid conflict and uncertainty. In the end, she was forced to confront "the wolf" and her fears of what lingered in the woods; she was left asking herself, "What would Red Riding Hood do?" The acting is pretty good. The film's cinematography is beyond excellent and is in both black and white and also color. Although the majority of the film is in black in white, you find that Rose's character seemed to be obsessed with wearing red and everything that is red in the film is actually in color instead of black and white. A world in black and white with highlights of the color red is quite interesting especially for the theme (the blood of Red Riding Hood). What stood out about the film are the artistic and creative aspects that explode on the screen into a film that is not your ordinary horror film about horny teens. You will find a film that is of high quality with an interesting story line and plot. Nudity and sexual intimacy is shown in the film but nothing that is overly offensive. This is a terrific erotic fantasy to watch and enjoy - inspired by fairy tales; this is what adult fairy tale are made of. An Erotic Classic,

Not all fairy tales are for children, indeed! What many people are not aware of is that classic fairy tales like 'Red Riding Hood" were conceived for adults. Not only that but they often had adult themes. Thankfully, 'Rotkäppchen: The Blood of Red Riding Hood' does not shy away from the sexual themes in the story. The film addresses the coming of age theme head on, so if you are easily offended by sex and nudity, this is not for you. I wish more movies were not so shy about sex. But I digress. On the other hand, if you appreciate a different take on a classic fairy tale, this film is highly recommended. Beautiful women, great scenery and splendid cinematography.

Yes, he's back. Mr. Horror Director himself. It's obvious that Harry doesn't have too much time on his hands.
'Sparks' fly with his newest horror movie ROTKAPPCHEN: THE BLOOD OF RED RIDING HOOD. As young kids we were all familiar with the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but admit it, we were also left with the erie feeling that some part of that tale was missing. This movie is a masterpiece of adult fairy tales that combines the thrill of horror with amazing cinematography and some very impressive acting. It's much more than your run-of-the-mill horror thanks to Harry's creative directing. Do not be intimedated by the nudity and sexual intimacy between 'Wolf' and his young loving prey as it explodes on screen, but do make this movie number 1 on your horrors to watch list. I'm sure you will agree with me that this movie is the best and most exciting adult horror fairytale you have ever seen. Thank you Harry Sparks -- Mission Accomplished!

When a German girl comes to live with her grandmother, it is a chance for her to break out of her shell and get out from under the thumb of her rather conservative mother. Being new can be difficult and Rose has a seemingly unnatural connection to the book Rotkäppchen (Red Riding Hood), a gift from her grandmother. Unknown to Rose, the wolf is on the prowl. With a little help from a new friend (Summer), Rose successfully gets the attention of a local stud (Nick). But, balancing friends, a relationship, family, fantasy, and a stalker wolf can be a little bit too much for anyone to handle.
The film is very good with very talented actors. While there is nudity, it never overshadows the storyline or the presence of the actors themselves.

Camera filters cannot disguise how bad this film really is.,

The acting in the film is remniscent of the acting in Ed Wood's movies. At first I thought it may have been because they were speaking in an unfamiliar language, but it does not get any better when they speak in English.
It seems that the film maker tried to hide a very low budget with clamera filters and other camera effects. The special effects that are there are shoddy. The werewolf costumes look like cheap Halloween costumes. I know amateurs who can make much better looking costumes. There are long moments of unintetnional humor. The only enjoyable thing about this film is Phil Gibson's ass. |
