4.0 out of 5 stars great tools, expensive to use
I used this to replace a shower valve - cut out some tiles, some drywall, it was an absolute dream, couldn't imagine how fast it was at work I was dreading. The bits are a big problem. I have gone through 4 tile cutting bits now (at about 6 clams a pop) - about one per foot of cutting, and I am someone with a gentle touch with tools - I have never broken a jig saw blade...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool.....Lousy Bits
I am a home improvement junkie and enjoy doing projects around the house. The wife & I are looking to buy a new home and we decided to get the house in tip-top condition before we sell.

I am in the process of installing a laminate floor that replicates the look of ceramic tiles in the foyer. I wanted the Roto Zip tool to make the cuts.

The tool works great, however,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool, June 4, 2004

I've had this tool for quite a while, and use it all the time. Easiest way to make clean cuts in metal, brick (with diamond cutoff blade), drywall, etc. Also, the only tool I've found for doing blind cuts into a corner, like when replacing a single hardwood floor board.

I haven't had the bit-life problems another reviewer mentioned; it might be they need a carbide tip. The only significant problem I've run into is getting into tight spaces; taking the base off helps, but the body is still a little wider than I'd like.

I am in the process of installing a laminate floor that replicates the look of ceramic tiles in the foyer. I wanted the Roto Zip tool to make the cuts.

The tool works great, however, the bits wear out so fast cutting through the laminate. My old sabre saw using fine tooth blades last alot longer.

I am debating whether to return the tool to Amazon now and go back to using the sabre saw. The way I am going, I will have to buy another 15-20 bits to complete this project.

1.0 out of 5 stars What was I thinking???.........I can't even eBay this thing!!!, September 3, 2007
This review is from: RotoZip RZ10-2100 Pro Cutoff 5.5 Amp 15,000 to 30,000 RPM Variable Speed Spiral Saw with 3 Jaw Chuck, ZipMate, 2 ZipMate Wheels and 2 Guidepoint Bits (Tools & Home Improvement)
Try as I may, I've only found one that this tool is pretty good at....... cutting holes in drywall for electrical outlet boxes. I've tried using the straight router bit to cut 1/4" plywood, which was an absolute failure. The edge guide and CRCT1 circle cutters are nice concepts, but useless when working on anything harder than drywall. The tools jumps erratically about and tears the material. If it has any depth, old style plaster (1940~1950's vintage) is also beyond the capabilities of this tool. Honestly, the tool is well made, nice and beefy, but there is inadequate structure between the base and the tool body. The base can easily deflect from the tool body, resulting in bit alignment and, often, broken bits or damaged work pieces. If that flaw could be corrected, the rotozip would have a good chance at being more than a large Dremel tool.

From my experience, it would be better for the customer to assess his needs, then choose a laminate trimmer (i.e., trim router), jigsaw or perhaps a grinder, whichever is appropriate to the customer's tasks at hand. I can definitely recommend the Bosch jigsaws and most name brand laminate trimmers or grinders. In any event, the customer will probably spend less than if they purchased the RotoZip. However, if the customer is dead set on this tool, go to eBay and spend $10~20 for a used one. The shipping cost will probably be more than their winning bid.

4.0 out of 5 stars great tool for moderate use, February 6, 2011

have been using this for free hand routing and cutting into pine and plywood for a year. this is a very powerful tool with multiple options for cutting, grinding and shaping. works as advertised. only problem is frequent removal of sawdust from the work area to keep the cut clean and smooth - this is a common problem with all tools of this kind. there are no vaccum ports / nor is it convenient to attach a shop vaccum when you are doing free hand cutting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zip through anything, December 16, 2008

This tool delivers. It is versatile, strong, and (with some practice) let's me make perfect cuts in fiber cement board.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rotozip, January 28, 2008
This review is from: RotoZip RZ10-2100 Pro Cutoff 5.5 Amp 15,000 to 30,000 RPM Variable Speed Spiral Saw with 3 Jaw Chuck, ZipMate, 2 ZipMate Wheels and 2 Guidepoint Bits (Tools & Home Improvement)
My husband just loves his new rotozip saw. It's easy to use and the variable speed feature makes it very versatile. I'm also glad I purchased the one that came with the extra wheels and guidepoint bits because he does use it a lot. He also likes the fact that he can purchase additional extras for the saw. Overall, it's a great tool and a good value for the money. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in purchasing a spiral saw.

In ordered this toll under the assumption that it came with a hard tool case. after receiving it with a duffel bag, I called Amazon and they told me they would send a replacement, and promised me that they would make sure it came with the hard tool case as stated. When I received the replacement tool it also came with a bag. All Amazon could tell me is I guess it doesn't come with the Hard case. I'm very disappointed in Amazon
