I like the solid case. I can drive my jeep over it! Doesn't leak. No smell. However, the government sticking its nose into gas spouts has managed to create a disaster. The tiny knob holding the tiny spring in the spout broke the first time I used it. There were NO directions on how to use this eco-spout properly other then a tiny lettering on the spout that points to open or closed. I had no idea you had to hook it in tank and press down! found an obscure video somewhere that explains. nevertheless it sucks!! you can find the old self venting ones on line. eco-spout..nice idea...poor poor execution. Rotopax should put an ILLUSTRATED STICKER ON THE CANS Showing how to operate this piece of junk since the gov forces them to use it.

Be very CAREFUL who you buy this from. I'm pretty sure I got mine from Powersport Parts, and what I got what an outdated version that I cannot find replacement caps for (mine came with a cracked cap). Even when I contacted Rotopax directly (which I had to do because Powersport Parts didn't provide a warranty), they had a hard time getting me the right cap (I was able to get one, but was unable to get more - hope the one I have never breaks). Make sure you get the "newest"version of the product... otherwise you're screwed.

The can is great. The new Eco spout leaks. get the can with the old style spout. The gallon can fits great in my side bag and the closure is great. The Eco spout just sucks

If this gasoline storage pack had an operational spout, I would lobby Amazon to allow me to give it 10 stars. The construction is very robust and, above all, it doesn't leak or give off even a hint of gasoline fumes - even when stored inside a vehicle. We purchased 2 of these 4-gallon RotopaX containers at the last minute before a 3-week overland trip to remote parts of Baja California, traveling for days over very rough jeep trails. Expecting the reviews of other users reporting that the packs don't leak at all were accurate, I took the chance of storing these in the back of my vehicle. Not a drop leaked or even any odor, which makes the purchase totally worth it for me. I also saw that all the reviews made note of the virtually useless spout, so I brought along a funnel appropriate for refilling the tank on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma. For this vehicle (and probably most others), a Hopkins Mfg. #10701 FloTool funnel with the bottom 2.75" cut off works perfectly. Purchased at O'Reilly Auto Parts for $1.89. If you're careful, you won't spill a drop.

I'm all for protecting the environment and reducing air pollution. But when a device specifically designed for that purpose fails so miserably, you've got to find a work-around! You will end up spilling much more gas trying to use this new (CARB-approved) spout than if you were able to use the now discontinued old-style spout or even a funnel. For the price of this product, you would expect more. I don't fault RotopaX for the spout design as I've yet to see an effective CARB-approved spout.

Leaks Leaks Leaks!!! Worst money every spent. You can't return it once you had gasoline in it! Company wouldn't even send us another cap to try when we realized we couldn't return it. Do not buy!

Got it mounted and within a couple of days noticed it was leaking. I've contacted the seller and they said they couldn't help me and that I should contact RotopaX directly. RotopaX website has a contact form field, but that will not allow me to submit. It keeps telling me that I'm missing or putting in incorrect information. I sent multiple emails to the email address listed beside the form field, but no response in a few days. I'm very frustrated at this point because now I'm supposed to be leaving on the trip that I purchased this for and have a leaking, unsafe, and non-environmental friendly gas container - thus I've removed it and now do not have spare fuel!

I also purchased a water container, but haven't tested it for leaks since it is below freezing this time of year. I'll update you once I find out!

Mine was missing the plastic clips that hold them together, customer support was no help because I didn't take a picture of it before unwrapping it. I could see where the clip broke outta the packing. I won't be buying from this place anymore

I will never use the Koplin Fuel Taks again if i have to. They have been nothing but a pain. They leak and I had to come up with a whole new way of keeping them from leaking. I bought a Rotopax Gas can for my 10-15 day wheeler hunts. I still have to use my Koplins but this can in comparison blows the Koplin out of the water!! The can itself seems more ridgid even though the Koplin is ridgid too, the Roto just looks and feels like a more ridgid product.

BUT the real kicker is the the spout and cap system! On the Koplin the major flaw is the cap. It simply just doesnt work. The plastic is flemsy and is truley the weak link. If you hold the cap up to the sunlight the plastic seems thin and translucent. On the Rotopax... flawless. Pure and simple ...it works. Tough ridgid material,, heavy duty, and get this...IT DOESNT LEAK!!! What a concept! I own six koplin tanks because for the longest time thats all i knew there was. When you fuel up wheelers and boats with the koplins they are awkward and hard to handle, even with the spout working, which never does. The 2 gal cans in a sence are the same as the 4 gal because the lock together, but are so much easier to handle. A smaller person man /woman could handle these just fine. A smaller man or woman with a koplin would have fuel spilled all over the place! There simply heavy and awkward.

I will continue putting these cans to the test and would like to increase the number of these cans in my fleet. The ONLY reason for listing it as FOUR STARS is because of the price. I mean $75 for a gas can when you get doen to it...its just too much. I would be more comfortable around the $60 mark just because they are better than Koplin and better made but 75 is a lot of money for 2 gallons. Now i just top off my two gallon tank and use it for my traveling tank. the koplins all stay at hunt camp.
