Product Description

Animals are people too! And that is messed up. So they have independent cinema.

See what happens when an animal film crew kidnap a human boy and make a movie of the abduction. Read things about Nature that just aren't natural. Fear your pets from this day forward.

With zombie-cat attacks, gun-blasting massacres, drugged-out puppet shows, exploding car chases, camera-chickens, bat acrobats, wild sex, martini parties and torture-ROTTEN LITTLE ANIMALS is a crazy ride through the underground animal film scene and on to the Big Time.

About the New Bizarro Author Series:

With the current state of the publishing industry, it is hard for new voices to be heard. We wanted to do something about this. The New Bizarro Author Series is designed to showcase first books by unknown writers of the weird at a low price. By publishing these books on a smaller budget, we're able to take more risks and publish more writers who might not otherwise be given a chance. Created by authors Kevin L. Donihe and Carlton Mellick III, and publishd by Eraserhead Press. Try out one of these new talents to take a glimpse at the bizarro writers of the future.

From the Inside Flap

"Like a bionic Ralph Bakshi reborn from snorting Orwell's ashes, Kevin Shamel drags cherished childhood fantasies into the gutter of adulthood, and makes you pay dearly to swallow them all over again. Intelligence is a universal disease, but never fear... Rotten Little Animals just may be the cure we've been praying for." - CODY GOODFELLOW, author of Radiant Dawn and Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars

"Looney Tunes amped up on cocaine, sex and soft, silky fur and feathers. Shamel's debut is wildly entertaining and destined to become an instant bizarro classic." - GINA RANALLI, author of Sky Tongues and Suicide Girls in the Afterlife

"This book has three of my favorites things: Kittens, Zombies, and Snuff Films." - JEFF BURK, author of Shatnerquake

"It begins as a zombie film, transforms into a deranged puppet show, and ends with a car chase. If you ever wondered what a Pixar exploitation film would be like, you need Rotten Little Animals." - CAMERON PIERCE, author of The Ass Goblins of Auschwitz and Shark Hunting in Paradise Garden

"Written with the humor of Adult Swim, but with enough psychological profundity to matter. Shamel is a bright motherfucker!" - FORREST ARMSTRONG, author of Asphalt Flowerhead

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical animals, October 11, 2009
By kltowns "kltowns" (Edmonds, WA, U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
Animals have always been smarter than people...they've just been hiding it rather well. It's hard for me to dispute this fact, especially after reading Kevin Shamel's Rotten Little Animals. In the book, an animal film crew becomes aware they have an observer, and it's a human. The human, a boy named Cage, has seen the actors and crew talking, using movie equipment, and giving each other high fives--not typical animal behavior at all. Animal law says he now has to die, but this rotten crew has other plans for Cage.

I found this book to be an engaging read from beginning to end. I wasn't sure who to root for--the animals or the humans! And perhaps, that is part of Shamel's message. Who really is the more intelligent species? As this is an example of the new bizarro genre, be prepared for a mix of adult themes (strong language, illegal substances, sex), but here they are used to support the strong characterization and plotline and are seldom distracting. If you like your books a little on the absurd and strange side, Rotten Little Animals is certainly a good choice. And what happens to Cage? I don't want to give away any of the exciting action, so will leave you with one of my favorite lines from the book: "Shut up, bats!" growled the bear. To The Fumigator, he said quietly, "I'm starting to doubt the wisdom of this plan."

4.0 out of 5 stars Disney as Directed by Lloyd Kaufman, October 10, 2009
"Rotten Little Animals" is about a group of animals making underground animal-cinema. After a human boy catches them in action, they kidnap him to use as an actor. They start with the idea of an art-film epic and move on into pseudo-snuff territory. With zombie kittens, inter-species intercourse, and more splattering brains than you can shake a boom-stick at, this book is what I wish every Disney movie was like.

Part of Eraserhead's New Author Series, showcasing first works by potential new bizarro authors, Shamel's book is a lot better than many other author's first books. At times the writing can be a little rough around the edges but the story is just too much fun for me to care.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adorably disturbing- Great read!, October 10, 2009
Curling up with Rotten Little Animals is the perfect way to spend a night (preferably with a beer.) Its a book which you can read in one sitting- and I did because I found that once I starting reading it I couldn't put it down.
Rotten Little Animals is about a boy who gets literally caught up in the grungy world of animal independent films when he mistakenly sees a film about zombies being made out back on his house.
With real zombie kittens, alcoholic birds, and a ruthless film crew headed by a despicable rat and psychotic dog- it is a hillarious and dark story full of action and intrigue. This is a great first book by Kevin Shamel and more fun than a barrel of stoned immoral rats with cameras.
