5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Shortino & Co. Return From The Dead or Japan or Wherever to Cutt Your Heart Out!
For years now it has been impossible to get the first and only two Rough Cutt albums on CD unless they were ripped from a file-share site or you spread out the dough to get the Japanese Import versions which are usually outrageously priced. The back catalogue of Warner Bros. apparently had written Rough Cutt off or something and that was that. Remember 1985 & '86. The...

2.0 out of 5 stars Throwaway Mid-80s Mainstream Metal
Despite having two top shredders and a great vocalist in their ranks and being championed by the Metal God himself (Dio), this band had actually very little going for it. You won't get more than pretty generic mid 80's mainstream metal rockers and schmaltzy ballads in this collection: the kind of music tons of bands were doing at the time, but with better songs and much...

The hair metal explosion was in full force with all kinds of crazy bands (Most of which were incredibly lame) and Rough Cutt was one of the shining spots in that whole era. LA-based. Rough Cutt had been under the thumb of Ronnie James Dio and his wife Wendy for some time. The band had produced then-future Dio guitarist Craig Goildie and was one of the hidden commodities of the LA club scene of the mid-80's. I saw them on tour with Dio in late '85 and they were great. The winning factor to Rough Cutt was Paul Shortino's awesome vocals. He later left the band to take over a Kevin DuBrow-less Quiet Riot, but that was a bad career move. Had he stuck with the Rough Cutt thing at the time, who knows? They could have been mildy sucessful. They were a pretty tight band. As I said, one of the shining moment of the whole hair metal revolution. I believe Shortino is still affiliated with the name Rough Cutt...but it's way tooo late in the game to make a comeback. Bottom line: You can finally buy the Orginal Rough Cutt album and it's follow-up Rough Cutt Wants You! for a reasonable price. Believe me the money is well spent. Cutt Your Heart Out, Piece Of My Heart (Janis Joplin cover), Kids Will Rock, Rock The USA, etc... A tight little cluster of good 80's metal tunes. Shortino wails!

5.0 out of 5 stars Double Shot of Rough Cutt !, April 25, 2007
This review is from: Rough Cutt/Rough Cutt Wants You (Audio CD)
Hell Yea ! I was one of those metal head kids ya saw in the 80's. I loved to find the obscure metal bands that kicked butt. I'd see groups in concert like Keel, Helix, Accept, Loudness, TNT, Stryper, etc. I prided myself on having a wicked metal-head collection of 80's\early 90's Metal music. If it was a metal band in the 80's I had it or heard it. Rough Cutt was one of my favorite metal bands. They had a raw but seductive way of sounding and with Paul Shortino's unique voice it glued it all together. The song Black Widow is a song that Cinderella's Night Songs could never touch. The cover song they did of Janis Joplin's "Piece of my heart" truly would make her proud to hear. The song "Dreamin again" just takes me to another time and place of metal paradise, lol. I was lucky enough to see Rough Cutt LIVE at the Hollywood Sportatourium in Hollywood Florida back when they opened for Dio and toured for their first album. The show kicked butt as well as Dio. Damn I wish the metal of the 80's was still going strong today but thats life! Im glad I have my 80's\early 90's metal cd's to listen to and give me good memories. I'm honored to have Rough Cutt in my collection! Tear it up metal heads of the 80's !

4.0 out of 5 stars Rough Cutt - 'Rough Cutt / Rough Cutt Wants You' (Wounded Bird), August 1, 2006
This review is from: Rough Cutt/Rough Cutt Wants You (Audio CD)
Yep,I give this a four star rating, specially for the price.Hadn't heard or seen ANYTHING of or about Rough Cutt in years now. Here, you get both their lp's mastered onto one disc.'Rough Cutt'('85)and 'Rough Cutt Wants You'('86).More or less just straight-ahead '80's hard rock.Remember I saw the band when they were support act for Dio's 'Sacred Heart' tour.Line-up:Paul Shortino(one-time Quiet Riot vocalist)-vocals,Chris Hager-guitar,Matt Thor-bass,Amir Derakh-guitar&synth and David Alford-drums.Should appeal to fans of Tyketto,D.A.D.,Love/Hate and Hanoi Rocks.

Both Albums were 80's rock at it's best. Rough Cutt never got the publicity other less talented bands received during this period. I believe RC focused more on their music and less on the hair and glam. Excellent lyrics awesome riffs---- You won't be dissappointed.

Incredible find. An A+ for those who want to have a nostalgic taste of what metal should sound like in an original sense. The production is top notch and the musicianship is superb. Paul Shortino's vocals are over the top as well as the drumming of David Alford. The track Black Widow rules!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the few vynils I kept was "Rough Cutt Wants You", February 19, 2009

In the eighties I listened to these albums thousands of times. When I quit vinyl records to make the upgrading to cd I sold more or less 2 thousands albums. I remember I kept only a couple of them, Jeff Beck Guitar Shop and "Wants you" (a mention goes to the cover which for me is particularly lovely). I was soooo in love with this album I couldn't part by it. More than twenty years are gone from the release of these two albums, but I still love them very much! I don't know why I love them so much. A lot of bands that were bigger than Rough Cutt, never have been in my heart like them. Rough Cutt was not a huge act. They were a small act back then in the eighties and disbanded only after these two releases. Nevertheless for me these albums still sounds fresh today and I love, love, love them like few albums; Whitesnake 1987, Ratt Invasion of your Privacy, Def Leppard's Hysteria, Tesla's Mechanical Resonance, everything from Van Halen and few more things. For real, these two albums have the spirit of the eighties full inside them. Paul Shortino'voice is fantastic and the guitar inventions of Amir Derakh even if nothing particularly flashy, were so nice. I'm so glad someone decided to re-release these gems because for a lot of times they have not been available. I remember a lot of summers with these albums in my ears ,... sweet memories!!!! Thank you Rough Cutt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Live 80's Metal, July 11, 2007
This review is from: Rough Cutt/Rough Cutt Wants You (Audio CD)
Back in 1985, I owned both Rough Cutt albums on vinyl and cassette. They were listened to quite often and wore out quickly. I had been looking for these on cd for quite awhile. What a pleasant surprise to find it here (ON ONE CD, nonetheless). The musicianship is amazing and the production is what totally propels this into another universe. If you are a fan of 80's metal - BUY THIS NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars we need more rough cutt, September 3, 2006
This review is from: Rough Cutt/Rough Cutt Wants You (Audio CD)
It's bands like these that make the 80's shine.Too bad they

did'nt make more releases. What's really sad is that a lot of

rock stations don't even play this.paul's voice is very distinctive, also got his solo stuff. So if you get the oppurtunity

buy this and any of paul's cd's.This is elite compared to the

likes of kickaxe and black n blue. All in commin with great hard

rock and songs that have hooks all over. And to mention they all

did'nt make it big,what a shame!
