Excellent!,

This review is from: Rough Framing Carpentry (Paperback)
Aimed at the tradesperson, not the beginner (I'm the latter), Currie's book is a no-nonsense guide to framing under the time pressures of the real world. He emphasizes techniques designed to cut and install lumber without tedious measuring and marking, with the unexpected result of improving my work tremendously. Framing is much easier when you focus on what you're trying to accomplish instead of the bits and pieces. An excellent guide for all.

Rough Framing Carpentry,
By Johnny Clyde (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rough Framing Carpentry (Paperback)
If you are a young framer and you feel like you are being held back by the older more knowledgeable carpenters on your crew, buy this book! It covers all phases of the framing process including roof cutting and stair building. The pros and cons of working for your self as a "piece worker" or working "hourly" for the framing contractor is also discussed. Lots of infomation on how to cut production time using simple yet effective methods is seemingly on every page. The book is organized so that each chapter discusses one part or phase of the framing process and what you can expect to get paid. This book transformed me from a grunt on a framing crew making bread and water wages to a piece worker making journyman's wage in one season.

The perfect book for someone entering the framing trade.,

This book is geared for some one looking to become a production framer. If you are looking to be an efficient framer and want to make some money at it, this is the book for you. However, if you just building a single project, it might be a little overdone, however it will still provide you some very useful information. I recommend it, regardless of the size of your framing project.

I've looked at many books on different trades and all the books I could find on framing. This is easily the best. Mark Currie gives you the details you need, and he gives them to you in a clear and understandable way. His book covers basic to advanced topics. It's well-organized, has lots of good illustrations, and doesn't waste your time on information you don't need. Mark Currie clearly knows what he's talking about and knows how to explain things well. This is the best book to have on framing.

Received this book in a timely manner although it had San Diego Public
library stamped all over it. So one of you out there has an overdue library book. Ha! Seriously, buy(used) "The Very Efficient Carpenter" by the late Larry Haun or any of his other books or DVD's if you want to learn quick and efficient lay out and framing. This author wants you to think you are planning a shuttle launch. It ain't that complicated folks.

This book truely is outdated, poorly written, and will not teach you anything. I agree with the guy that said he laughed all the way through it. It is the worst written and most poorly photographed or illustrated book on Amazon...very sad to see such high praise on here. (Shame on you all for not admitting you couldn't get past the first chapter)....you want a good book...try Graphic Guide to Framing and you will learn some thing. This book is nothing but a door stop...and even at that it fails.

Excellent,

Excellent book, very well written, very informative for anyone with little framing experience. Even though the pictures are a bit old (and black and white) they are still very helpful.
