5.0 out of 5 stars The "Belize Bible" is a Better Title
I got this book on a reccomendation from the Toucan Trail, A budget traveler's online guide to Belize. I have to say that this is the most comprehensive guide for vacationers that I have ever seen. I had to wait a while for the most receent edition, but it was worth it. Topics that hadn't even occured to me to research are included here (thank gawd!). The book even...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing & Inaccurate Hotel Descriptions
This is my first time purchasing a "rough guide" book. Our travel group had several different books and was consistently disappointed by the inaccurate descriptions of hotels. For instance, one hotel was located RIGHT on the airport runway at one of the islands - without mention from the book. The location of hotels and destinations near those hotels was also WAY off -...

The book even covers traveling into Guatemala to vist the ruins at Tikal. If you only buy one guide for your trip to Belize, this should be the one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book came out in Oct 2007, half these reviews (specifically the bad ones) were written before that!, May 15, 2009
Just wanted to point that out! Obviously the reviews must be talking about previous editions. The maps, locations and reviews are accurate in this edition.

This remarkable book contains many useful information about Belize. Even after living a few years in Belize I am still finding pearls of hints and tips in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars very handy, April 10, 2007

This review is from: The Rough Guide to Belize, Third Edition (Paperback)
this book did cover low bidget places and was very handy. it also covered more upscale loactions but did indicate that quite well. (we visited Belize 10/06). the prices were pretty accurate and the reviews as well.
one of our favorite places in san pedro was a 'hole in the wall' almost literally that this book recomended. it cost about $1 american for 2 of us to have breafast (home made belizian style breakfast tacos) and we would get a slice of homemade cake to take with us for lunch. we also stayed at rubies and breakfasted there often. rubies was definetly the best stay for the money.

we also used this book in san ignacio and found it extremely helpful and again in belize city (belmead i think). it told us everything we needed to know.

i higly recomend this book for any savy low budget traveler.

We found this guide very helpful in planning our trip, especially in finding a few off the beaten path spots.

This is my first time purchasing a "rough guide" book. Our travel group had several different books and was consistently disappointed by the inaccurate descriptions of hotels. For instance, one hotel was located RIGHT on the airport runway at one of the islands - without mention from the book. The location of hotels and destinations near those hotels was also WAY off - specifically in San Pedro. Luckily, we had two other guide books to reference.

I judged the book by it's cover and pictures and regret it. I will not use this book series again.

This is a great book! However, when they say "rustic" they really mean rustic! Good info but luckily, everyone speaks english there so that helps too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!, February 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We used this on our summer trip to CA. This book was the best of all our books. It was truly like have our own tour guide as we drove down the road. Great along Hummingbird Hwy. Only complaint is that he states at the border of Belize to the neighboring countries you can get a credit for paying as you exit. This is not true. We went in and out of Belize three times in one day, to Guatemala and Mexico and they thought we were off our rockers thinking we would not have to pay again. Belize sticks it to you! And when you actually fly home they get you for almost double what you paid just to go across by foot!

The picture above is of the latest edition (5th), which came out in November 2010. This book is of the 4th edition, published 2007. Amazon also sells the 5th edition. Get that instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, April 30, 2009
I went to Belize for 10 days. San Ignacio, Placencia, Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye. This book gave me the alot of good inside information about what to expect from all the different areas I traveled. It was comprehensive and I'm glad I brought it with me. It may need to be updated soon. Some of the acommodation pricings were off. I also thought the book at times painted a better picture than what I saw, but only at times. Mostly a great book.
