5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to find new music to love...., September 29, 2008
This review is from: The Rough Guide Book of Playlists, 2nd edition (Rough Guide Reference) (Paperback)
Fun and easy to read. It is British. Listening to music has changed from concept albums to singles on playlists. How do you find the tunes you would like?

This book has hundreds of lists of music listed by style. The lists, submitted by musicians, critics, and fans, have short descriptions of the songs, and is also a small music history overview. Perfect little pocket reader for the folks who haven't had much time to discover new stuff. I have downloaded many songs that have been a delight. The book has also helped me enjoy even more about the songs I already liked. The review on the front says "mind-expanding and irresistible" and I completely agree!

4.0 out of 5 stars More playlists than you could ever listen to and then some!, July 4, 2009

This review is from: The Rough Guide Book of Playlists, 2nd edition (Rough Guide Reference) (Paperback)
I bought this book after seeing it on the back of The Best Music You've Never Heard 1 (Rough Guide Reference) (which is also a good book). This book has so many playlists that I'm not sure that I will get through them in my life time. There are lists for just about every kind of music genre, musician, and mood you can imagine. Besides being able to make some great playlists, it is a very interesting read. There are informative statements under each playlist title and each song. The musician lists are awesome! Each song either has a critique, information about recording, information about the singers reaction to the song, or special instruments or techniques used during recording. I found it both enjoyable and informative. If you are a music-lover, you will enjoy this book without ever building one of the playlists. Reading the book while listening to the playlist is sheer bliss. I would have given it 5 stars but some of the songs are hard to find (not downloadable) which would make the creation of some of the playlists more of a chore (and additional costs for needing to buy the vinyl, cassette or CD) to create a complete lists. This was the only downside I found so this book is definitely well worth the cost!
