1.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to use and lacking vs Lonely Planet, October 31, 2006
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Budapest 3 (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Paperback)
I will admit that I am normally a Lonely Planet person, but I decided to try this one for a change. And since it was just for one city, how bad could it be....? Well, I thought it s**ked!! Poor layout, no comprehensive city map (just detailed section maps and a very vague overview map) made it difficult to navigate from one district to another. Also, for a guide on JUST ONE city it was very sparse in terms of places to stay and places to eat. I will never go with Rough Guide again without first carefully checking it out Before I buy. It just did not have the practical details I needed from a city guide book. LP does a much better job. Hope this helps.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good history section - poor maps, December 26, 2006
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Budapest 3 (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Paperback)
This guide book could be improved in many respects. Budapest has a wonderful public transportation system that is relatively easy to use when quality maps are available. Unfortunately this guide book's overall city maps are bare bones. Small detailed maps of specific locations are generally thorough, but need to include the names of more side streets in the parts of the city where the streets meander.

The historical details and backgrounds of buildings and sites is quite helpful, but the info as to how to get there needs improving. The page design and chapter title on the side of each page is helpful when thumbing through, but I don't recommend this edition.
