4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good mix..., August 23, 2005
This review is from: Rough Guide to Dub (Audio CD)
But if I were introducing a friend to dub, I'd just get him a CD from the Blood & Fire label, like "Dub Gone Crazy: The Evolution of Dub at King Tubby's 1975-1977" or "Heavyweight Dub/Killer Dub."

Perhaps this CD is best used, in conjunction with the "Rough Guide to Reggae" book, as a buyer's reference guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dub collection for the new fan and the avid one, August 15, 2005

This is a great collection from all of the big names of dub. I'm a huge reggae fan, but only own a handfull of full dub discs. This one has a nice variety of styles and moods. A lot of folks, that I know, who are new to the dub world often have issues with the 8 to 10 minute track lengths. Most cuts on here are actually pretty short (by dub standards), so it should be easily tolerated by anyone that likes good music.

Not a fan at all of reggae (more into '80s Brit ska like the Specials, Selector, Madness and the Beat) but once the Clash did a dub reggae song, I was sold.

So that's where I'm coming from in reviewing this so bear with me if you are a Jamaicanophile. The dub on this stuff is the real stuff and the echo effects are fantastic. The whole CD makes you feel as if you are in a dance hall in Kingston.

The usual Rough Guide notes filled in the blanks in my knowledge. If you must get one CD on dub, I'd say pick this up and go from there.
