5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!, May 20, 2009
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Hawaii (Paperback)
Rough Guide are the best travel books. They give a little history as well as details about where to stay, eat and travel for all price ranges - from the "on a budget" to the extravagant traveler. They also cover customs and are frank but humorous about it - like drinking, smoking, dress, what to expect - whatever! The only one that was not reliable at all was Rough Guide to the Dominican Republic. But otherwise, this and the 15 others I have used so far are fantastic, informative, cover everything for everyone's taste and whim in what they want to see, do, eat, drink, stay or learn and experience. Rough Guide is well worth every penny and a great way to get an idea of what you wanna do, when you go and the best time to do that. They even give you general info like weather, money, politics, health, visas and prices for everything. The best well rounded travel book ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and well written, October 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have bought a number of the Rough Guide series and always been pleased with the amount of information and they ease of accessing it as well as their inclusion of some of the history of the locale. Hawaii has been equally as good as the rest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and Concise, February 9, 2011

This review is from: The Rough Guide to Hawaii (Paperback)
Great little guidebook detailing all the major islands of the state of Hawaii. I took this with me when I went backpacking out there and it helped quite a bit to find some places to eat, areas to check out, beaches and public transportation. There were a few typos throughout which I hope were fixed in the latest edition.

Unfortunately I didn't use this as much when I came across the Ultimate Hawaii Guidebooks for each individual island. But if you're looking for something that's clear, concise and efficiently tackles all of the islands in one book, then this is it! They just released a new edition for 2011 as well (I had the 2007 edition) so I imagine the book is even better.

Before going on ANY type of trip, I always inform myself of exactely "where" it is that I'm going and what to expect. I like to travel off the beaten path, so this Rough Guide to Hawaii was a must-have! It's well written, covers all the Hawaiian Islands, and really does tell you about everything. I've used it for two trips now...one to Maui, the second one to Kauai, and both times it really, really helped me around the island I was on. I would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to anywhere in Hawaii.
