5.0 out of 5 stars A really comprehensive guide!
They are many guides to choose from while traveling. I bought this one because it's suppose to have information in it like a friend would give you. I am using it as my primary guide beacuse the others aren't as good. I loved the Rough Guide format and would select this guide first when travleing again!

2.0 out of 5 stars opt for lonely planet instead
i've never used a rough guide before, but i had higher expectations. the way this book is organized is really counter-intuitive (by restaurants, entertainment, etc. rather than BY NEIGHBORHOOD). we actually ended up buying the lonely planet a couple days into our trip and were really pleased with it; it's better organized and helpful additional information (especially the...

They are many guides to choose from while traveling. I bought this one because it's suppose to have information in it like a friend would give you. I am using it as my primary guide beacuse the others aren't as good. I loved the Rough Guide format and would select this guide first when travleing again!

The book starts out with places that you shouldn't miss, which I thought was a great idea, all in color and tells you how to find more info on each place. I loved the section on basic facts that told me info about electrical outlets, how to get to the city from the airports, and the normal things, like exchange rates and safety.
Next the book moves into neighborhood chapters. It gives a map (with each place PLOTTED), points of interest and history. I like the way this is organized, so I could see what I wanted when I got to each neighborhood. The book is very well written, not dry at all, as many guides can be.
The following chapters are quite what one would expect, restaurants with web addresses and phones, recreation, a large chapter on bars and clubs, including a gay-friendly section.
The last part of the book recommends trips outside of Montreal to places like Quebec City.

The best things about the book- It's small. The maps. The friendly language in which it's written. And the careful reviews.
