Indispensable.,

This book helped me in practically every way. I went from Palermo to Milazzo to Alicudi to Messina to Taormina to Catania. And the book had ample information for every situation I found myself in. It was most helpful to me when I was traveling. The information on how to physically get from place to place (trains, buses, ferries, taxis) is what I used the most. Get a map from the local tourist office; the book tells you where they all are. Also, I saw a ton of people with the same book! Must be a popular guide.
Of course, I learned more about Sicily by seeing and doing than by reading, but this book is a great reference to have. Highly recommended.

This is the best book that I have bought for my Sicily trip. Covers all the little details like where exactly to park in Taormina (and how much will this cost?)or Trapani, and shows you where on the map. Covers where the restaurants are in smaller towns that you might visit that other books just ignor. Unlike the Blue Guide, it is arranged in a logical fashion to find the info that you need. It has maps with the exact location of sights that are supposed to be a must see, but where are they exactly? like the Giudecca palace in Trapani

I've been to Sicily before but it has been a long time since my last visit. This guide captured many of my memories nicely and gave me plenty of new ideas of what to do when I get there. I recommend this guide to anyone going to Sicily.

I used this book exclusively for a trip to Sicily in April 2011. It was very helpful, it is split into sections so you can get a fairly detailed information about the area you are in. I used it in Taormina, Siracusa, Catania, and Ortigia. A detailed map is provided for each area, which was helpful in finding points of interest. I felt that the authors were pretty much spot on in their reviews of what's worth seeing. In Ortigia, the book said the Fonte Aretusa was a waste of time, since Ortigia is small we ended up passing it anyway, and the authors were correct, it was really just a pond with some ducks in it. We also used the book to help us find places to eat, we were never dissapointed. However, the Irish Pub the book recommended in Ortigia is no longer there. Overall a very useful book to bring along. I used it several times a day, so it was worth keeping in my purse.

Our daughter and son-in-law were recently transferred to Sicily and will be stationed there for three years. We're definitely planning on visiting them, and checked out most of the tour and travel guides. This one was far and above everything we looked at, so naturally we came home and ordered it from Amazon, my favorite place for books...and most everything else! Seriously, though, the Rough Guide is easy to use, its maps are large enough to be able to use them in a car, and it provides guides and references to many places that other travel guides don't. Another plus is that they also provide information on public transportation. We liked it enough that my daughter is ordering one too. Happy traveling!

To fill in the question I had about a pending trip to Sicily. I get alot of information online, then finalize the trip with a Rough Guide.
