Kindle edition difficult to navigate,

I bought the kindle edition. Seemed like it would lighten the weight of my backpack. The book is good to Rough Guide's usual standards. The navigation for Kindle is absolutely awful. Theres only a few entries in the table of contents for places in Sri Lanka. Hence every time you need a reference you have to click through a lot of pages to get to where you want, if you know where you want to go that is. I wish I'd bought the paper version.

In January 2011 my son and I spent 10 days in Sri Lanka; going directly to Kandy from the airport;
on to climb Sri Pada (adams peak); and then to Negombo for some R&R. After using the book to arrange all of our itinerary; I would say it was very very good but not excellent. But it is the best that is out there.

The Rough Guide to Sri Lanka was a great guide for my trip to Sri Lanka. I was able to plan my trip out in advance, pre-book some of the accommodation, and was able to find some new places to visit. Some distances in the maps seemed slightly off, implying the places were a bit closer than they were in reality - e.g. in Dambula, however, I was able to get around seamlessly using public transport. I would recommend more detailed regional maps as once I was stuck on the train in the mountains and had no clue where I was when the train broke down. Fortunately, they were able to fix it and we proceeded to our destination only a few hours late. I find the RG similar to the LP guides for the most part in quality, though the layout is somewhat different.

Rough Guides are always great. Detailed colorful and accurate with great maps. Its always a toss up Lonely Planet or Rough Guide. They are both very well done. I usually buy both so I am covered - but if I only had the money to buy one it would be Rough Guide. (assuming it is a recent published version) The Rough Guide to Sri Lanka (Rough Guides)
