4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album By A Guitar Great but Not So Great Sound!
This mini-lp sleeve replica of the classic Jeff Beck album isn't as well done with regards faithfully representing the original lp artwork as what others have done as it's a little flimsy and the quality of the cardboard that is used isn't the best.

2.0 out of 5 stars mixed too fast
The original album is at the correct speed. Somehow this
was remastered at a faster tempo and it makes some of the
songs sound soooooo wrong. Wish they would remaster this
gem. Go find the lp.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album By A Guitar Great but Not So Great Sound!, October 1, 2006
This review is from: Rough & Ready (Audio CD)
This mini-lp sleeve replica of the classic Jeff Beck album isn't as well done with regards faithfully representing the original lp artwork as what others have done as it's a little flimsy and the quality of the cardboard that is used isn't the best.

Sound quality-wise, the alleged DSD mastering that was done leaves much to be desired as the sound on many tracks is really muddy with the bass a little too overwhelming at times. In fact, I believe the sound quality of my original unremastered cd was only a little less as good as this purportedly remastered cd.

Content-wise, this represents along with "Blow By Blow", "Wired" and "Truth" the best album and the best music that Jeff Beck has ever done. This is essential listening for all aspiring guitarists that are out there. Speaking as a guitarist myself who was playing Jeff's licks all those years ago while learning my craft, you would be hard-pressed to find a better role model. Great expression, tone, creativity are all found in abundance in any of the four named albums above.

Recommended.

Beck is still without peer. This early '70s effort is vastly underrated in the Beck canon. I first heard "Situation" played on KRLA-AM in Los Angeles, hard to believe a Beck record could be a "hit" single in those days, but there it was in the airplay rotation. His poetic, spare solo on "Got the Feeling" was my first indication that Beck had something no one else did -- I still don't know what to call it, but I've kept buying his recordings ever since. Guitar 101 starts here.

Hey Jeff Beck Fans here's part 2 of my also extremly hard to find album's.Out of the over 8,000 album's I own this one has to be one of my all time favorites, not just because I'm a big Jeff Beck fan,but it is truely one of the only album's I have that I love every song on and in today's world thats hard to say!! If you read my personal review of there first album (Jeff Beck Group) you will see all the same members are back this time just a little more refined and with more orginal material. The band is much more refined and you can truely hear why Jeff Beck is one of the guitar greats,He shows just how versital he can be on guitar. So if you want get into some Early Jazzy-Blues-Rock see if you can get a hold of these 2 album's you woun't regret it. If you get a chance read my review of there first album for more info about the group. Keep Jammin!!Bill T.

Just buy it. Incredibly tight band playing a great song selection with Beck at his most consistently listenable - with tasteful yet mind-bogglingly hot at times - guitar. One of two albums with this band .... "the orange album" came next and is excellent as well. My favorite band by arguably the best guitar player ever (but not by anyone who has seen him "on" where there are only smiles and literally "mouths hanging open" in sheer joyful amazement.)
Makes a guitar emote and sing and wail and crunch and ROCK like nobody else!
