5.0 out of 5 stars OMG these Viking timetravel books are STILL some of my favorite reads
Lt Torolf Magnusson has decided to go back (if he can) and put a hurtin' on old Steinolf, the bad ole viking who tortured his sister and destroyed his old home.

Tor has been in the SEALS for a while and he is one of those very macho hombres, who think they are invincible. HE probably is, he sounds fine and has a heart to match. Men like that are hard to find...

3.0 out of 5 stars okay but not terrific
Sandra Hill is a fantastic writer with a superb sense of humor. She has created a world of Viking time travelers that has been very successful, and an immmensely relaxing read. This is not one of those fabulous books. It is okay. But, that is the problem, it is just "okay" compared to the others in the series. The plots and jokes are getting thin and repetitve. Her...

Men like that are hard to find in any century. When he tells his buddies he is going on a raid, they decide to go with him. Non believe they will be going to the thirteenth century. But that old magic works once again and history here they come.

They land in Norseland at an old hunting lodge that has been turned into a sanctuary for women. Hilda is a Norse Lady whose home has been captured and destroyed by Steinolf. She and a few women made it here and have settled in. The arrival of five good looking hunks comes just as they decide they need men to have children.

Tor finally convinces Hilda that he has come to defeat Steinolf. They start training the women to protect themselves and Tor finds he likes Hilda a little to much, he is in trouble whenever he gets around her.

As they get ready to storm Steinolf 's keep his cousins arrive with a number of long boats and sailors. As usual the action is non-stop and the laughs are too. The actions in that time and in our time are hysterical, I laugh till I cry. Then the romance is also sweet, what more can you ask for from a book.

I absolutely love these stories and she can't write them fast enough. The story of Hilda and Tor is just as good or better than any of the others. As long as she writes these stories I will buy them. Do not miss this one.

Her stories of this period were unique, now they are a little boring. What is not boring and what saves the story is her increasing amount of detail about SEAL life and the people who create the SEAL landscape are always interesting. Perhaps she should create a modern series devoted to SEALs, special forces and the like, for she brings to the public a look into their lives and training that is not genereally discussed in such novels.

Her other series are also excellent, the cajuns and recently the Jinx books. If you are not acquainted with her Vikings do start with the earlier ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars There and Back Again ..., December 6, 2006
This review is from: Rough and Ready (Viking Time-Travel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Torolf Magnusson reverses his time travel to destroy his family's enemy, Steinholf, and brings his SEAL teammates with him. He meets an old friend Hilda who now runs a women's' sanctuary/nunnery. He trains Hilda and her women, gathers abused farmers in the region, and recruits his cousins to his cause. All the while he is trying to convince his buddies that the time travel that happened is real. He trains his fighting force, defeats Steinholf and travels back to the future; this time bringing Hilda. They encounter problems since Hilda's blood type has not been seen for a thousand years and they have some X-file type people hunting for her. Since he's a SEAL, they defeat the X-file nerds and live crazily happily ever after. What a wacky, insane book. This novel is purely fan service. This is definitely not a stand alone novel. I enjoyed it though and it is written much better than her previous Viking II book as she resolves the storyline for her Viking II time traveling family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rough & Ready, January 11, 2007
This review is from: Rough and Ready (Viking Time-Travel) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love Sandra Hill as a writer and this new book did not disappoint. As a matter of fact it was exciting and fun to read. Can't wait for her new book about Pretty Boy and Big Mama. That should be as much fun as this. The only problem with these book's is that I read them so fast and have to wait so long for the next book. Keep them coming Sandra, I love them.

I have read most of Sandra Hill's books. She is very funny and I laugh out loud when reading her books. In this book, she combines Vikings and Navy Seals. It works!

4.0 out of 5 stars amusing Viking time travel romance, December 9, 2006
This review is from: Rough and Ready (Viking Time-Travel) (Mass Market Paperback)
His brilliant sister UCLA professor Kirstin, an expert on ancient studies especially Vikings, asks Navy SEAL Lieutenant Torolf Magnusson what he would change if he could go back in time to an event lost in the annals of history; a little documented event say in 1020 like Steinolf claiming to be king of the Norselands after a ten year reign of terror. Torolf is happy in America, but would want to stop the madness of Steinolf.

Torolf and his SEAL teammates ride a Viking long ship in Norway when they are transported back to the early eleventh century. There he seeks the help of his childhood friend, Brunhilda "Hilda" Berdottir, a "Dark Ages feminist". He and his men find her and other strong women living in Sanctuary. As his men think it is a big ruse, Torolf begins his quest to end Steinolf's tyranny even as he and Hilda fall in love. If he succeeds on his mission, Torolf wonders about the future with Hilda, here, the twenty-first century, or will they be the ultimate star-crossed lovers.

The latest amusing Viking time travel romance sends Torolf to the past with his squad in which misunderstanding becomes the norm and the lack of coffee makes the men suffer caffeine withdrawal. The plot takes many more twists than the previous tales, which doubles the humorous fun as further time induced confusion occur. ROUGH AND READY is a jocular tale that Ms Hill's fans will laugh about with the antics of displaced people while going over the hill and back.

2.0 out of 5 stars same ole same ole same ole, April 1, 2010
By
This is the third book I've read in this series. The first one was Wet and Wild and I found it hilarious, but after reading the next two books I've gotten really bored and impatient with this series. I'm really surprised by how many positive reviews this book has gotten, because aside from the plot, its basically the same story and characterization that was repeated in the previous two. The jokes are all the same, the women are all the same, the insults are all the same, the men are certainly all the same.
1. The women are shrews. They are one tantrum after another. Page after page of the heroine walking around with clenched fists and being so mad, "she couldn't speak" (yeah right) that it's amazing they don't have high blood pressure. It quickly gets to the point that I couldn't care less what the heroine is PMSing over now. The women are also stupid and irrational who get themselves kidnapped and held at gunpoint simply because they don't want to be ordered about and to prove this literally walk into such situations (this happens in this book). Yet despite all this, these women have friends up the wazoo and champions ready to fight for the death for them.
2. The men are just as bad only this time their masochistic sex addicts. It got really tiresome reading one description after another of a woman's body. Fine, I get it, they've only got sex on the brain! They never take anything seriously, these are well trained soldiers, but they act like complete goofballs. Some heroes. Its impossible to truly believe that they could take anyone seriously enough to love them and want only them.
3. The last book the heroine screamed one insult after another, mainly lout, lecher and troll. In this book the heroine screams out one insult after another mainly....yep you guessed it, lout, lecher and troll. I suppose originality and individualism are overrated.
4. The books contain a lot of dirty sex which made me blush. It got very tiresome when the women spend all night rolling in the sheets then deny they even enjoyed themselves the next morning so the men follow them around like dogs in heat. Honesty must also be overrated.

All in all this book was just a repeat of the previous one, same personalities different names.
If I didn't already own the next one in this series, I wouldn't bother reading it. Let me just take a wild guess what it will be about - a guy who only wants to sleep around and a woman who yells a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Come Back, May 18, 2011

I loved this book! It had adventure, sadness, happiness and Tolroft was very compationate in this story unlike the cold heartless person he seemed to be in "Hot and Heavy". Great read.
I wish there was more interaction with his family who had time traveled in previous books. Maybe a family and friend of all the past viking books reuinon in an upcoming book. I would love to see how all of the past characters are doing. Maybe even travel back to the 11th century and back like this book did. I love the time travel series. Please keep them coming.
