Product Description

The Tourbillon movement was Invented in 1795 by Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet . The Tourbillon counters the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, in order to negate the effect of gravity when the timepiece (and thus the escapement) is rotated. Originally an attempt to improve accuracy, tourbillons are still included in some expensive modern watches as a novelty and demonstration of watch making virtuosity. The mechanism is usually exposed on the watch's face to show it off. The Rougois tourbillon is a fine example of this movement. This beautifully designed mechanical wind up watch measures 42mm or 1 5/8 " wide and 12mm or 3/8 " thick. It has a 24 hour corresponding time zone indicator on the left dial. The right dial is the 24 hour day night indicator. The tourbillon oscillates and rotates itself around the axis of the frame every 60 seconds, thereby acting also as a second hand. The watch is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but also mesmerizing to look at while sitting on your wrist. This is not a faux torbillon movement or open heart movement, this is the real torbillon. Mechanical Tourbillon 3310 Movement in 19 Jewels Hand Winding, 2 hands with Moonphase in 3" position and Dual Time in 9" position. 3ATM water resistant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!, February 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rougois Tourbillon Moonphase Mechanical Watch (Watch)
Let me start off with this, I have recently became captivated with mechanical watches within the past 2 years and have done much research on many brands, parts and watchmaking/repairing by reading and some hands on tinkering so my review is based from a beginner point of view when it comes to quality of questionable brands such as "Rougois" (pronounced "rojawaa"). So with that being said lets move to the review. First, from my research on the movement it is a "Chinese movement" and I believe it to be made and sold by PTS Rescources in Hong Kong and the model number is 3310. This movement is made amongst many others within this company and is also a leading distributor/manufacturer of Chinese movements. You can download there catalog for free from there website and read the in depth specs on the movement that I believe to be in this watch. The Tourbillon carriage is a functional one and a very well made one at that. Winding up the movement has a very smooth and solid click and immediately starts the rotation of the Tourbillon escapement and is not loud at all as the watch ticks away. As far as keeping time, I have not seen any noticeable lost or gain in time as the watch runs. All jewels are placed in the proper "friction" areas and no fake ones to be found. Mechanically everything in this watches movement is very accurate and very well put together and in my opinion can last years if taken care of properly.

The watch case is a bright, polished casing with "Rougois" engraved very nicely on the side and seems to be pretty heavy duty. The back of the watch case is open faced with a crystal cover which shows the backside of the plate of the movement. It is not a skeleton plate but, does still show the jewels, ratchet wheel, transmission wheel and click. The case is thick bodied and in my opinion a tad bulky, but it gives the feel of durability. The Rougois logo is actually on the crystal face itself and not on the dial. From my inspection it seems to be embedded in the crystal so it is not a decal and I noticed it gives a neat effect when the light hits the face and shadows the logo on the watch dial itself. Not sure if that was there purpose when designing this watch ,but it works for me and some of my co-workers noticed it and thought it looked sharp. To sum up the casing, I believe its pretty water tight and can take a hit or drop with out breaking.

The dial has a very nice textured face and trimmed out neatly. The numbers have a polished bronze-ish face, shine in the light and contrast beautifully with the open heart Tourbillon. The dial also displays a moon and sun phase. This is not an actual moon phase indicator, but just a night and day indicator. Not really rocket science, but if I wanted to know what phase the moon was I can just look up at that sky at night and see. So having the sun/moon dial is still cool and it is also the same polished bronze-ish color as the numbers so they look great together. The design of the face in whole is an eye catcher and the spinning Tourbillon is your center piece show it off and wear it proud :)

My conclusion for this watch is simple, Where else can you get a real functioning Tourbillon movement for this kind of price? Just because it doesn't have "Swiss" stamped on the movement and dosen't say a $10,000 name brand on the face does not mean it's cheap. So if your looking for an affordable, quality Tourbillon watch you have found it!

3.0 out of 5 stars less than expected, February 17, 2010
This review is from: Rougois Tourbillon Moonphase Mechanical Watch (Watch)

While this watch was ok, it did not meet my expectations for
a timepiece in this price range. Watch was returned. Would rather
pay alittle more for better quality.
