4.0 out of 5 stars the new sisters, March 7, 2008

This review is from: 'Round the Corner (The Sister Circle Series #2) (Paperback)
Second in the Sister Circle series, 'Round the Corner (Vonette Bright and Nancy Moser) continues the story of Evelyn Peerbaugh and her newly opened boardinghouse, Peerbaugh Place. The first group of tenants has moved out, although some have remained in the picture. Mae married a neighbor; Audra married Evelyn's son Russell and Evelyn is taking care of Audra's daughter Summer.

Now Evelyn has the challenge of selecting a new group of tenants. Compared to the sisterhood that developed the first time around, however, the new women, Gail and Heddy, don't quite seem to measure up. They appear to be hiding secrets and neither shows the slightest bit of interest in becoming friends with anyone.

Then Piper moves in, temporarily, to allow her parents to stay in her apartment. Her support helps Evelyn to continue to grow in strength and confidence; in turn, Evelyn lends a comforting shoulder to Piper. And slowly but surely, both Gail and Heddy begin to open up as their lives are touched by God and the other women.

Like the first volume, this one gets a little "preachy" in places but the story line is good, if predictable. There is an odd little rabbit trail about Anabelle, who wants to rent a room with Evelyn and believes she has been turned down because of her weight. It doesn't quite seem to fit with the rest of the story, but maybe Anabelle will show up again later.

In the meantime, it was fun visiting again with the regulars and getting to know the new folks. I'm off to find volume three and see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Second Round of SisterHood, August 28, 2011
As Book #2 Starts in the Sister Circle Series , we discover that Evelyn Peerbaugh's house is empty once again as her previous tenants whom they formed a sisterly bond with each other have moved on to greener pastures. Tessa is enjoying a Cruise filled with History , Mae Fitzpatrick is now Mrs. Mae Ames as she married Collier Ames - the neighbour across the street and Audra Taylor has become Mrs. Peerbaugh as she married Evelyn's son Russell. Evelyn , not sure exactly how to run a boardinghouse decides to leave it up to God once more, though it seems this round he may be testing her. The first tenant arrives is Heddy , she works at Ruby's Diner as a waitress but it seems she is hiding a dark secret - will the bond of sisterhood get her to open up and become her true self once again, the second tenant is Gail Saunders - she too has a dark secret - a month ago she was fired from her job as a Marketing director and has been working at a fast food joint , she also claims to be divorced but we discover that too is a lie. Who is Gail really and what is she hiding from? The last tenant is the lovely Piper from Book #1 - her parents have moved into her apartment during her mother's surgery - so Piper has moved into Evelyn's house. As the novel gets on we read as Evelyn is sued by a tenant she turned down - the reason the tenant is stating : Apparently discriminated because she was FAT. Russell wants to adopt Summer , but trouble lies ahead when Audra tries to get Summer's biological dad Luke to sign the papers and Piper is having relationship issues as she meets a hunky Jewish Doctor , but the problem is he doesn't believe in God. Can Piper date a non-christian or will she follow her heart and say no even if it means breaking her own in the process ? I quite admired Piper as a character in Round the Corner , as she is so strong and though it pains her - she always puts God first in her life. Will the new tenants despite their beginnings and secrets , together with Evelyn become the second generation Sister Circle ? Find out in you never know what may lay just "Round the Corner" at Peerbaugh Place Boardinghouse by Vonette Bright and Nancy Moser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sister Circle Series are Comforting & Fun!, November 19, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved the Sister Circle Series (4 books)... It is about a widow who finds
herself needing finances and decides to make her historic home a "boarding"
home for single women. I am a widow and it was perfect to read and I related
with the widow in so many ways. Each woman who came to this home had different needs and personalites...and the woman bonded... The authors caught
the subject wonderfully. I have loaned the books to several widows and they
pass them on... It has been a bond for all of us. In fact, I bought another whole series to share with more women. I am also thinking/praying about making my home a place for single/widow women even more than I do now. God will lead! L. Marcellin
