For the last decade, Jay has fused his Dine (Navajo) heritage with the singing style of the people of the Northern Plains and carried his music to native and non-native people throughout North America. The Round Dance is a courting dance for couples and is popular with Native Americans everywhere.

Stirring,

This is one of my favorite Native CD's in my collection. It is both relaxing and stirring...It is fragrant with emotion and healing energy. The third track is amazing. I first listend to this at a listening station at Virgin Records and couldn't leave, I kept repeating the song over and over. I noticed that it seemed to have the same affect on everyone who went to the station...they wouldn't leave! This is not a highly popular album, but I don't know why..you will not be sorry you bought it!

This CD is one of the best Native American CDs available, and one of my personal favorite out of all the CDs I own. Jay Begaye is an awesome singer. As a fellow Navajo Indian, he represents our people well. Even if you can't understand the Navajo language, my favorite song "Sunset Flower" is in English and is one of the best love songs in existence.

This review refers to Round Dance In Beauty - CD by Jay Begaye -If I had only one word to describe Jay Begaye's tribute to Round Dance - and because another reviewer already used the word "stirring" of which I am in total agreement - that word would be gorgeous. I must start by saying that I am not of Native-American descent, and have never participated in a round dance.This music makes me want to take it up though. It is one of the most moving,stress releasing,and up-lifting albums I own .Sometimes I am so affected by the music, it brings tears to my eyes. This is not because It is sad music. Quite the opposite in fact.These are, according to the Navajo translation on the insert, "Songs filled with happiness" And they are! There are 10 soul soothing tracks - all listed here in the buying info where you can also preview a taste - and each one tells a story. The Navajo(Dine`)lyrics are as the title suggests a thing of beauty. Free translations are given as well, both in the songs and in the insert as well. I'll give a couple of examples (in English) of the moving words: In "Children's Prayer"- The Earth, our mother, your children are dancing. In happiness and beauty they dance. In "Sunset Flower"- The first time seeing you, I fell in love with you. You're as pretty as a sunset flower. I will, I will, never ever forget about you. They are songs of love and the beauty that surrounds us.And you can't help but to be taken away by the stirring sounds of the accompanying Indian music. Jay Begaye - wonderfully does lead vocals as well as hand drums and pow-wow drum Anthony Betoney and Leander Shay also contribute to vocals.I must also make mention of daughter Tinnesha Begaye's lovely contribution - Hush My Darling, which beautifully combines traditional sounds with contemporary. Although I don't Round Dance, I use and highly recommend this album for a good session of Tai-Chi or Yoga. It is also wonderful for trips on the open road as well as a soothing, stress-relieving listen if you happen to be stuck in wall to wall traffic on some city freeway. It comes with an insert, that has a little background of the tracks, and some exquisite art work as well that gives a good feel of what is to come in this album.The cover painting is called "Sun Spirit" by Robert Freeman.The album runs 37 minutes in total. Not very long, yet a wonderful escape. Well done Mr. Begaye, you have a new fan! Highly recommended for something different-be careful,you may get hooked and may even want to take up Round Dancing.....Laurie
