1.0 out of 5 stars Model lacks quality and parts, November 4, 2011

This review is from: Round 2 MPC Dukes of Hazzard General Lee 1969 Charger 1/16 (Toy)
First of all, I would like to mention that my buying experience was A+. The seller shipped it quickly and I got the item in a short amount of time. This review is not aimed at the seller. I am upset solely with the quality of the model kit. Wow was I in shock! I thought the bigger the kit, the better the model. I was wrong. This is by far one of the worst tooled kits out there. The parts are overly and purposely too small to be significant and you have to glue tiny pieces together to make bigger pieces. Why not just tool the completed part instead of this annoying feature? The small parts in question refer to the valvetrain, transmission, etc. You don't even get to see the detail once it is all glued together. Why bother? Another gripe is the use of chrome plated parts. Please stop releasing model kits with chrome plated plastic parts. You have to score and scrape away the chrome so that the plastic cement glues together correctly. The worst part of this model is the front steering and suspension assembly. You have to kit-bash the model to get the right level and ride-height for the ground clearance. More importatly, the white plastic body of the Charger is not an official 1969 Dodge Charger. The body is in fact that of the 1969 Dodge Carger Daytona race car. The front wheel openings are too circular and do not reflect the studio vehicle at all. Additionally, my box lacked quite a few parts: transmission bell housing, the entire rear seat and rear deck piece and the entire exhaust system from the headers back. From my research and watching the show, there was in fact a back seat on the General and from seeing other peoples' finished MPC model, they have the complete interior and exhaust system. Finally, if any, the few good things about this kit. The model is really big! It is nice to have a large model to display. The actual body of the Charger is the only well tooled piece so if you can tolerate the garbage small pieces, you will have a nicely finished car. Once the car is kit-bashed, it will sit flat and above the tires. I decided to abandoned the General Lee altogether and go with the Dodge Daytona race car blue and make it a Pro-Am Nascar vehicle from the time period. Its a shame I couldn't make the General.
