Great things come in small packages,

This review is from: Round 2 AMT ST Enterprise Set (3 in 1) NCC1701, 1701A, 1701B 1:2500 (Toy)
At first I was rather cautious about the small scale coupled with the relatively low price point of these models, but as a LONG time builder of Star Trek kits, I decided to try them out. After opening the box, I was instantly impressed. Each model was individually packaged and nothing was broken, but the stand out feature was the two large sheets of very high quality water transfer decals. It even includes the "aztec" paneling paint scheme! The only down side is the lack of any type of display stand; I am assuming that there will be a separate offering that could hold all six ships, but since these are not ships that can "land", you will have to get creative with displaying them. (I am using a picture frame of a star field with little black wires sticking out so the collection can be hung as wall art)The kit is a "snap-it" and most of the pieces fit together well with a minimum of flash, however, be advised that the skill level "2" definitely applies. Some of the parts, particularly the nacelles, required some glue and clamping to get them together, and a little filling and sanding was required for some of the seams. I would certainly recommend gluing everything together to avoid cracking paint or splitting decals later. Ah, the decals... this is really where the set shines... even the windows and the warp engine details are included... take your time, cut everything carefully and use a setting solution and you will get expert results. Even with all the decals, a little paint is still required, so better get out the 10/0 brush. As for scale, The "Original Series" USS Enterprise measures 4 17/32 inches long which scales up to 944 feet, and according to the Matt Jefferies blueprints, the "real" ship is 947 feet, so the kit is spot on. Judging the relative sizes against the various comparison charts on the web, the proportions look correct. Overall, this is an excellent set of kits, especially when considering how inexpensive they are. While just fine straight out of the box, a little extra care and attention and you will have a true showpiece. I hope you enjoy building these models as much as I did.

My son has discovered Star Trek. I bought this model kit as one of his Christmas presents. We've spent the last few weeks assembling them and they look pretty good. Only thing I had to do extra was build some small holders (using small flat piece of wood and some dows) and they look great. If you get all the enterprise models they are all in scale so you see just how much bigger Picard's (D) enterprise is when compared to Kirk's ship.

These models are great to give you the size comparasion of all the Enterprises. Yes, Kirk's originals are small, but they aren't that small. They will look nice on display with the other much larger ships.I have two problems though. First is simple enough. You'll need a little glue. The simple "snap together" won't hold properly. That wasn't a big deal, but just warning. Second and most importantly. No stands to display them? Come on, one or two pieces would have made a nice little base to hold them upright. Not like these ships are designed to rest flat... Lastly, isn't really a problem just a note on my lack of artistic ability. These models are plain flat colors. You want them to look like the pictures, you will need to paint them and be able to work the water decals fairly accurately. So very simple to put together, a bit more than a Skill 2 to make look nice.

Let me start out by saying that when i plan on buyign something i read the reviews first! with thta being said i took a major risk with this and got kicked in the head in return. The NCC1701 model came with no decals, more then half the snap on parts needed glue and 3 parts for it would not fit, even if you try to sand them down or trim them they still dont!ALSO MAJOR WARNING, DONT PLACE THESE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT! THE DECALS WITH COME OFF!

Very nice set, but more of an excercise in decal application than model building...,

The models themselves are simple to assemble (very few parts, might need glue to keep it together better). The potential deal-breaker here is all the decals. Now don't get me wrong, the decals look amazing and will make your starships look lovely...it's just that there are so many! In fact, enough to coat nearly every surface of enterprise-a and b in decals! My experience with water decals before purchasing this set was...non-existent. In fact, I probably wouldn't of purchased this if I knew what I was getting into...HOWEVER, after a couple of youtube tutorials on decal application and quite a few hours, I have me some decent looking starships (considering the circumstances)! I would say...if you have the time and patience to stick every decal just right, you won't be disappointed with this set. I'm happy with it, considering it's a cheap-ish snap-together. If you don't like water decals, prefer other methods of detail, or think you wouldn't have the patience...it goes without saying, look elsewhere... ...now to do enterprises c through e....

This is what it looks like, three small snap together ships. Zero difficulty and fragile if not glued. However the decal set is fantastic. NO STANDS

Really good small models. The decals are just that, decals, so you have to take your time since they are not stickers. Wish they were a little more durability and one of the spots on the Enterprise D didn't match up and I had to do a little sanding but everything else clicked just fine.

I got this toy and i thought that it would be realy cool. When I opened the box the the ships where only like 2 inches big. And when I tried o put them together thet fall apart. If I was you don't get this.

Good for beginners. However, the third ship I threw out. As one of the nacelles broke, and it was just poorly made. But I do love the other two small ships. The smallest of the three does not snap well. The middle ship was the better of the two. I wish the decals were regular decals, but they are water decals...I'll probably end up painting the enterprises rather than using their decals.
