2.0 out of 5 stars An exercise in frustration, March 31, 2011

With these "Cadet" series Star Trek kits, the implication is that they're well-suited for children or amateur builders. That's only half true. The kit itself is extremely simple. Snap-fit, only a few parts, it all goes together quickly and easily. The real disappointment with this model is the decals. They are extensive, and I assume if you can get them onto the model successfully you'll end up with a nice-looking ship. The caveat is "IF". Some of the decals are very large, and since they rip if you even look at them the wrong way, they're extremely annoying to work with. You basically get one shot at placing them, because any attempt at repositioning will result in damage. Even an experienced modeler will have a tough time with these decals, and I can imagine that someone new to this hobby would be ripping out their hair in frustration.

I am a big fan of the Enterprise-C. Ever since "Yesterday's Enterprise" came out in 1990, I loved the design of the ship. I actually had two of the larger, glue version of this ship back in the 90s, but they fell apart. All Good Things...

This miniature, snap-tite model is pretty much straight out of the B, C, and E 3-in 1 model kit. Only differences are, this guy's on his own, and the plastic is cool blue instead of bland.

Funny thing was, I didn't even recognize this design for what it was until years later: a blend of the Enterprise-D and the Excelsior class. Best Of Both Worlds...

I wish the scale was larger, but for what they are, they're good models, and pretty durable for snaptites. I like them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed - (as an adult), August 5, 2010

I missed out on getting the ENTERPRISE C model back in the 1990's, you know, the bigger one. When I saw this one coming out, I was super excited for it. But when I got it, I was immediately dissapointed. First of all, when (and if) you assemble it, it will be AT MAX, 7 inches long. There is no painting involved really, as all the blue circle lines are done with STICKER DECALS! and they rip extremely easily. Said stickers cover over the small windows that are carved into the model. Why even bother to carve them into the plastic if we cannot color them cause the decal is over it???? Also, the nacelles do not have a firm place to be held in place during gluing, making the chance that they will not be balanced very easy.

The model is maybe, 8-10 pieces. No skill at all is required to assemble this. As an adult and experienced model maker, this is not a challenge at all. If you were a child, I can see it. But for someone that waited for the company to re-release the ENTERPRISE C model, this was not worth the wait at all. If you are in the same boat as I was, I'd avoid this. But if its for your kid, and they are into Trek, go for it.
