Product Description

Product Description

1/7600 Star Trek: K7 Space Station. Includes miniature USS Enterprise Space Ship, decals & display stand. Assembled kit is over 12 in Dia., 15W x 7 H. Skill level 2.

From the Manufacturer

The K-7 Space Station, a way-station on the fringe of the Federation, was the primary setting of the classic Star Trek TV episode, "The Trouble with Tribbles." Originally appearing in the 1970's, this kit is reappearing in its original form in standard cardboard packaging. This kit includes the in-scale teeny tiny U.S.S. Enterprise and all-new marking decals.

Bought this to use as Tabletop Scenery for the new Star Trek Attack Wing miniatures game. I have to say it is perfect. It might be a little large, but the DS9 station that they made specifically for the game is 12" diameter, so its not that far off.

An easy build for a starting modeler -- about a dozen pieces, all very simply constructed & easy to trim. Almost entirely made of large pieces, so nowhere near the challenge of the snap-together ships, though it does require model glue.

Plus points:

-- No tribbles included, but there is a tiny (1.5") Enterprise, which comically needs to be assembled from three pieces. The clear plastic cones are nice, and there are outer domes for the perimeter.

-- Built model looks pretty good for being made of so few pieces. Easy painting project.

Downgrades:

-- **No decals ** True, there weren't any decals in the original release, but this is the 21st century -- a simple sheet of windows, arm stripes, "United Federation of Planets" and "K-7" -- as seen on the box's outer illustration -- would make a big difference.

-- if you're going to have a tiny Enterprise, shouldn't there also be a tiny Klingon ship?

Final:

For "hobson's choice" [here is no other K-7 model] this is surprisingly good. In fact, its simplicity invites a rudimentary modeler like myself to step up to the putty & sanding techniques practiced by more accomplished modelers.
