A brilliant historical drama,

At the very beginning the setting & story seem surrealistic. We then realize that the unnatural landscape is actually the Steppe as it really is, while the comings and goings are not at all symbolic but rather depict the devilishly clever tactic used by the Hapsburg police to round up the 1848 rebels still at large. With sharp imagery, tight direction, excellent acting, a forgotten episode of history comes to life in a compelling drama.
