String Cheese's Best Studio Album,
By
This review is from: Round the Wheel (Audio CD)
I would actually give Round The Wheel four and a half stars. First of all, i would not reccomend buying this album until buying two other albums first. The best introduction to String Cheese and the best way to hear them is live. Their two live albums, A String Cheese Incident and Carnival 99 are both incredible. After buying these, then I would get Round The Wheel. Round the Wheel is alot better then their first studio album, Born On The Wrong Planet. The songs are better and the overall feel of the record is more reminisent of String Cheese live. Some of the bets songs are Restless Wind, On The Road, 100 Year Flood and MLT. Most of the songs are really good.

I dont know how one could say a negative word about this CD?,
By Joe Wallace (Blisstonia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Round the Wheel (Audio CD)
I read some of these reviews, and I must interject. "Poor imitation of MMW" someone wrote. There isnt a hint of MMW on this album. "Lacks enthusiasm" someone else wrote, Have you LISTENED to it?? It's all enthusiasm! The jam in "Come as you are" made me pull my car over the other day! "MLT" brings tears to my eyes, if Im under the proper influence. "Restless Wind" has the kind of immortal spirit as any old Dead tune. Find me a contemporary band that can bust out a recording like this. I will agree with the doubting Thomas's by saying that the CD doesnt do the live experiance any justice!!!! PEACE of CHEESE

A Truly Original Band,
By A Customer
This review is from: Round the Wheel (Audio CD)
SCI wears an eclectic mix of influences on their sleeve (jazz, jazz fusion, bluegrass, rock, of-course-the-Grateful-Dead, country, funk) but what they do with them is fresh and unique to them. They are also skilled musicians and songwriters. A review below says they show promise of being as good as Phish. Well, I love Phish, but I personally enjoy these guys more. They are every bit as impressive as musicians with the bonus of writing interesting lyrics and having strong voices that they use well together. As for those who sniff that "they-are-so-much-better-live," well, that tired criticism of jambands reeks of elitism. It's the hippie version of the alternative music criticism: "they were so much better when only me and my pals who all wear black were the only ones who knew about them." I'm lucky to have several SCI shows on CDR. There are a few I play over and over. But I also play this disc over and over. I love the live versions of these songs, but the studio versions also have tons of energy and awesome polish to boot. By the way, I agree with another reviewer: Negative comparisons to MMW are not only unwarranted, but totally out of left field.
