4.0 out of 5 stars String Cheese's Best Studio Album
I would actually give Round The Wheel four and a half stars. First of all, i would not reccomend buying this album until buying two other albums first. The best introduction to String Cheese and the best way to hear them is live. Their two live albums, A String Cheese Incident and Carnival 99 are both incredible. After buying these, then I would get Round The Wheel. Round...

2.0 out of 5 stars Pale reflection of their live shows
If you've seen this band live, or even heard their live recordings, you know how wonderful they can be. But this CD sounds heartless; there is no style, but rather a conglomeration of musical themes without any real substance. Their skills are never lacking, but knowing what they are capable of will disappoint you if you purchase this one. Get the live one or,...

Round the Wheel is alot better then their first studio album, Born On The Wrong Planet. The songs are better and the overall feel of the record is more reminisent of String Cheese live. Some of the bets songs are Restless Wind, On The Road, 100 Year Flood and MLT. Most of the songs are really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars I dont know how one could say a negative word about this CD?, June 18, 1999

I read some of these reviews, and I must interject. "Poor imitation of MMW" someone wrote. There isnt a hint of MMW on this album. "Lacks enthusiasm" someone else wrote, Have you LISTENED to it?? It's all enthusiasm! The jam in "Come as you are" made me pull my car over the other day! "MLT" brings tears to my eyes, if Im under the proper influence. "Restless Wind" has the kind of immortal spirit as any old Dead tune. Find me a contemporary band that can bust out a recording like this. I will agree with the doubting Thomas's by saying that the CD doesnt do the live experiance any justice!!!! PEACE of CHEESE

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Original Band, February 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Round the Wheel (Audio CD)
SCI wears an eclectic mix of influences on their sleeve (jazz, jazz fusion, bluegrass, rock, of-course-the-Grateful-Dead, country, funk) but what they do with them is fresh and unique to them. They are also skilled musicians and songwriters. A review below says they show promise of being as good as Phish. Well, I love Phish, but I personally enjoy these guys more. They are every bit as impressive as musicians with the bonus of writing interesting lyrics and having strong voices that they use well together.

As for those who sniff that "they-are-so-much-better-live," well, that tired criticism of jambands reeks of elitism. It's the hippie version of the alternative music criticism: "they were so much better when only me and my pals who all wear black were the only ones who knew about them." I'm lucky to have several SCI shows on CDR. There are a few I play over and over. But I also play this disc over and over. I love the live versions of these songs, but the studio versions also have tons of energy and awesome polish to boot.

By the way, I agree with another reviewer: Negative comparisons to MMW are not only unwarranted, but totally out of left field.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best live band of the 21st century, August 29, 1998
By A Customer

Although SCI is to live music what Cirque de Sole is to theater; the Cheese does not comprimise on this studio recording. Pick up this cd, get on the road, point it west, carb it, and let Kang and gang creep into your melon.

Note: Not bad music for dropping knees in waist deep pow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best mix of music on the planet is placed inside this cd!!!, May 7, 2002

WOW!!! That's all that can be said for the best CD on the planet. Let me explain: 'Round The Wheel blasts into the groovin' scene with "Come As You Are". This track pushes funk latin beats to the limit as the band floods you with an awesome jam. Then comes the Bluegrass, which can only be described as "Finger-Slapping". But, don't worry...SCI delivers their aroma of funk with "Galactic" and "Got What He Wanted". A pure latin rush comes in from "MLT", as the drums slam their way through this fast paced song. My personal favorite is "'Round The Wheel", because it starts with the relaxed 6 feel. Suddenly charges into a quick 4 feel with incredible feel and power. SCI leaves off with their trademark Bluegrass feel in "Good Times Around the Bend", which lets you relax for a second after being hit with the best music your ears have ever heard. This is the best CD in my whole collection. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album of 1998..., July 26, 2001

In a world of processed cheese, thank God for String Cheese! They're the best band anywhere these days, and this is their best album. I just wanted to pose a question to "Music Fan from Middle Earth". Since you were posting a review of the String Cheese Incident's album "Round the Wheel", and you referred to the band as a "weak cover band", can you tell me what songs on the album are cover songs? Your criticism would carry a little more credibility if you could tell us all just which songs from "Round the Wheel" were previously done by other artists, which is the definition of "cover". Well? We're waiting...

5.0 out of 5 stars Them Boys are Good, February 2, 2001
This review is from: Round the Wheel (Audio CD)
The String Cheese Incident's second studio effort features fantastic versions of such songs as Come as You Are, 'Round the Wheel and On the Road. This album displays the band's ability to jump from genre to genre without skipping a beat. From the latin infused MLT, to the bluegrass tinged Good Times Around the Bend, to the jazzy Galactic, this album definitely shows that "them boys are good."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album Best of SCI, November 28, 2001
By
This review is from: Round the Wheel (Audio CD)
I can say it is the best studio album thus far, i got this album in 2001, being introduced to the SCI in 2000. All the tracks on this album are different yet appetizing to the ear and get the body grooving in a funky sort of way. Nershi decides to play a folkish role in some tracks and they merge into a unique blend of both jazzy bluegrass and electric progressions. After seeing the SCI the energy produced live is amazing, but this album is a "laid-back" energetic rush of flavor for both the ears and the feet.
