Trout has penned lyrics that are easy for children to understand. Some songs are silly, others promote learning or good habits. At the same time they compose music that is appealing to children and adults alike, meaning that we "big people" aren't at risk of becoming bored with the music by the second time we hear the album through. Another fine effort from this musical duo.

Trout Fishing in America are thrilled that their latest family release, Big Round World, was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Musical Album for Children category. This caps off a great year for TFIA. In late November, Big Round World was selected to top NPR's "The Year in Music for Kids" List for 2008. The CD also received a 2008 National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) Gold winner and a Parents' Choice "Silver" Honor. In June, Performing Songwriter named Trout Fishing in America as one of their `100 Most Influential Independent Artists of the Past 15 Years'.

This is a particularly proud moment for Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet (aka Trout Fishing in America) as they produced this CD in their 'Trout House' studio. Idlet and Grimwood stretched out musically on this CD as well, playing even more instruments than on their past releases. Guitarist Idlet added percussion, mandolin and ukulele to his bag of tricks while Grimwood sat down at the keyboard to add that soulful B3 sound.

Showcasing a range of musical styles and several songs derived from song writing workshops with children conducted by the duo Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood who perform as Trout Fishing in America, "Big Round World" offers young listeners with fourteen lively, entertaining, original, and superbly recorded pieces that include My Favorite Jeans (2:51); When You Get Dressed (2:31); Martin Luther King & Rosa Parks (3:06); A Tiger and a Monkey and Me (4:09); Too Good to Be True (3:42); Always Chew Your Food (2:33); Curse of the Spinach (1:37); The Alarm Clock Rings (2:32); I Don't Care (2:43); there's a Rumor Going 'Round (2:22); Pearl (2:21); It Must Be Halloween (2:50); Five (3:56); and the title piece, Big Round World (3:48). Offering a wide variety of musical genres from Afro-pop, to jazz, to rock, to Bluegrass, "Big Round World" is enthusiastically recommended for family, preschool, daycare center, elementary school, and community library CD music collections for children.

As a long-time Trout Fishing in America fan, I was excited when I got my this CD. After listening to it dozens of times, it's no surprise to me that in the past couple months CD has taken top honors - a Grammy nomination & named Best Children's CD of 2008 by NPR.

The songs are fun, the lyrics original and the musicality is top rate. Don't wonder if you want this CD - you do.

Wow, what a great new album from TFIA. I new it had come out, but hadn't bought it yet when I got the news that it has been nominated for the Best Musical Album for Children 2009 Grammy Award. It's full of great music that appeals to me and my son. The song that meant the most to me was "Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks". In this incredible political moment, it brought tears to my eyes to think of those who paved the way.

It looks like Amazon is backordered and they say you can't get this by Christmas. I went directly to the source ([...]) and I got an autographed copy in the mail in less than a week.

Bought this CD for my grandson. He's an 8 year old, already game saavy, California Kid. My concern was that it would be too babyish. When talking to him about all kinds of music, I asked him if he listened to the CD I had sent him. He said "I listen to it all the time Grandma, it makes me happy inside". What better endorsement?

We loved this! We bought this CD for our six year old after seeing it on NPR's best Kids albums for 2008. We couldn't be happier. Our child loves it and we also enjoy hearing it again and again. It spans many types of music including folk, pop and rock. It is very upbeat and fun! The band collaborated with classroom kids to create a variety of music that includes humor and education. I have already given it as a gift to another family.

What is not to like about Big Round World? This album finds TFIA at their finest with well written songs that keep you smiling and singing along. Our family has been listening to TFIA for about 15 years and this was a hit as soon as we played it. Favorites include "Big Round World", "My Favorite Jeans", "Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, "Always Chew Your Food", "The Alarm Clock Rings", and "There's a Rumor Going `Round". Our son likes it so much, it has found a permanent home in his clock/cd player so he can wake-up to it every morning.

I bought this CD for my 6-year old son after reading many positive reviews, and he loved it! I have since purchased it as a birthday gift for a number of friends' kids. The songs are upbeat, and the lyrics are fun. My son's favorite song is "when the alarm clock rings".

My granddaughter played this on her portable cd player as we fell asleep in a motel room on a recent trip. I LOVED it and am ordering it for another family of grandchildren. The lyrics are fun for adults and children alike and the music is sophisticated enough for adults to enjoy. "My Favorite Jeans" is one we can all identify with.
