But for sidewalks, flagstone patios and walkways, and driveways, this Roundup Extended Control can't be beat. When I use the purple or yellow topped Roundup on these areas, I end up having to respray every 3-5 weeks to combat all of the new weeds. With the Extended Control, I can usually go 2-3 months before spraying again. The bottle claims that it lasts up to 4 months, but in my experience, it generally wears off before then. The length of time may be dependent upon growing conditions in various regions. We get LOTS of rain and temperate climate which may be why it doesn't last as long as advertised. Still, it makes a big difference. Instead of the 5-6 times that I would normally need to spray these areas during a growing season, I can usually get by with only spraying a couple times a year.
Roundup products do take considerably longer to start producing noticeable die-back of weeds. Many weed killers, such as Spectracide Weed And Grass Killer, wilt the weeds within an hour and leave noticeably dead weed "leaves" within 24 hours but have little luck in killing the root. With the Roundup, I rarely notice any effect at all on the weeds until at least a few days later. Even then, it's sometimes up to 2 weeks or more before they are fully dead.
But, there is a reason for this.Read more ›
The issue is that the weeds don't die-off right away. Some wilting is noticeable within 24 hours, but the weeds don't brown off and die until days later. So, give it some time before re-applying.
Also, I've noticed that on established dandelions, you may need to reapply the product after a few days. Dandelion greens will wilt at application, but the plant will still flower, bloom, and spread. Also, if you are using it to kill overseeded grass areas, I've noticed that the product is spotty on established fescue. Just a quick spray won't due, you really need to soak the area. It will work eventually, but the fescue seems to be too resilient with light applications (which can be a positive in not having to worry about over-spray or spray drift).
