i first purchased this item and was not initially too unhappy with it. problems with documentation and adjustment.

i initially posted a review reflecting my frustrations

I received a call from Dale (President of Rousseau Co.) who managed to track me down through a web search. He was very concerned about my displeasure with the product and wanted to make it right - whatever that took (his words).

we spoke for nearly 20 minutes - Dale was very attentive and listened to my complaints. He also provided me with some helpful tips on assembly. Stand works fine now after some guidance. I've never had a CEO call and actually care as much as Dale. he genuinely wanted to make a happy customer out of me. he succeeded in spades.

I could not be happier with rousseau and their products. this is definitely a company i would do business with again.

please ignore earlier post - written in heat of frustration.

4.0 out of 5 stars a nice portable stand, March 28, 2005
This review is from: Rousseau 2850 Shop Style Miter Saw Stand Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Before I bought this product I read the only review on the web and it bombed. I decided to but it anyways becouse of the companies reputation. Anyways it is a very well made stand thank god all the parts were there and not damaged. It took me about a houre to put it together but after you cut all the wood and align it about 3.5 houres. The directions could have been better and more pictures would have been helpful. Also the acc. are very expencive at 119.00 for the fence and 40.00 for the cut stop. Also the caster sould have been a little wider.I was also impresed that the last reviewer got a resonce from the companey thats standing behind your product.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid stand at a great price!, November 10, 2005
This review is from: Rousseau 2850 Shop Style Miter Saw Stand Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
My first choice for a Miter Saw Stand was the Rousseau 2875XL... the description of the quality of that model, as well as the rave customer reviews, made me itch for that one. But, with only a home basement workshop that I putter around in, I could not justify paying the price of that model.

So, I was a little hesitant to go with the Model 2850, because I thought that with its' much lesser cost, the quality might be lacking. After ordering it, and during assembly, I was happy to find that my hesitancy was unwarranted. The fit and finish is first rate... it is a very sturdy, and well-built stand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks good in the woodshop, December 1, 2006

I could never get around to making a miter saw stand with adjustable wings, so when I saw this product at this price, I ordered it. Assembly was straight forward using the supplied instructions. You have to provide the shelving material of your choice. I read the instructions over a few times and cut the shelves and wings using some old 3/4 inch plywood. Allow yourself a day or two to build this stand and get the final adjustments right. I will build my own dust catcher. The fold-down wings are a nice space saver when not needed. The fit and finish is very nice and a welcome working addition to my woodshop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Had to make an adjustment with hacksaw!, December 4, 2005

After buying the Rousseau 1000 Mobile Planer Stand and loving it I decided to get a stand for my Miter Saw. I love this stand just as much as the the first. I would rate it five stars, except that vertical supports were about an inch to long or the top hole were the pins for the wings attached was drilled about an inch to low. Some adjustment was required, cutting off the top of the verts so that the wings cold be opened. Then moving the top table up another inch or so becasue the measurments suggested in the manuel were off by about the same amount as the top holes.

I noticed another reviewer was called by the president of the company, if the president would like to speak with me I would be more then happy to come discuss tool stands while on a jet boat ride through hells gate and Canyon. (if you never been to Clarkston you have to go)

This is a partial kit. User must supply the shelving material. I paid $30 for MDF. Plus had to go get it etc.
Manuf recommonds 3/4 MDF. Another user got pre-covered material, great idea.
Took me about 8 hours to cut the shelves and assemble. Best method to cut is a circular saw with a straight edge(no free hand or little portable table saw). Else need a big table saw. You do need to hold the dimensions fairly tight(.060).
To the reviewer who did it in 3 hours... tip of the hat. Now that I did it once, yea probably could do a little faster. 3 hours... only expert.
The design of this could have been a bit better(reference the DeWalt planer stand). As other users indicate, need your tape measure out all the time to keep it square.
Setting the folding shelf angle brackets, not sure how that could be done with one person, I had my Dad's help (over 50 years of fabrication experience) and it was a pain to ensure setting the brackets for the shelves to be level. Although the instructions hint, clamp the shelf and bracket in place level, drill at the end of the slot to allow further movement as to increase shelf height... you'll see.
If your on a tight budget, or just like to build things, this is the way to go, otherwise not so sure.
I too was missing a small nut, had to go to ACE to get one.

4.0 out of 5 stars May not be for you., January 31, 2006

If you do woodworking for a living or are short on free time this may not be the stand for you. Don't forget you have to go and buy all the wood shelf's, cut and sand them. It took me the better part of a day to get done. Of course I am fussy and proud of my work. Other may slap it together faster and be happy with their results. I'm retired so spending a day making it cost me no paid work time.

Both ends of the shipping box were missing when I received it. My mailman was nice and he had taped up both ends.

I opened the box and started to assemble and found I was short one leg. There are 4 legs, two of one kind and two of the other kind. Well my box had 3 of one kind and 1 of the other. A toll free call to the company and they sent me out the missing leg in just under a week. Very good service. They wanted the wrong leg sent back with their UPS prepaid mailing label. Phone UPS for pick and they wanted some ungodly amount of money to pick it up. So I made a 10 mile trip to UPS.

I have a Makita model LS1013F 10" sliding compound miter saw mounted on it, and I'm pleased with the way it turned out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kit Needs Better Design, May 7, 2007

First of all I want to say it is a fairly good buy. Nice small storage footprint which is what I wanted. However, there are a lot of details that prevent me for giving it a five star rating. The Rousseau label was crooked (Get some jigs to apply the company logo properly to show some pride). Small thing, perhaps, but shows the company mindset. The instruction manual needs a lot of work. As another review noted, the single bar for the wings is going to be prone to causing warping. I had to ream out several screw holes since paint was preventing screws/bolts from going through, not necessarily bad since it was a good thick coat. The castor setup needs some work to get right, was a big pain. Bottom line for me is that it is a not bad but needs work on a few areas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rousseau 2850 Shop Miter Saw Stand, January 31, 2007
This review is from: Rousseau 2850 Shop Style Miter Saw Stand Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
My only problem was that the stand arrived in a box that was partially open. I was missing some parts. Rousseau was very helpful and shipped me the parts at no charge, although they took over a week to arrive.

The stand does take quite a bit of time to setup. It's a good weekend project.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rousseau 2850 Miter Saw Stand Kit, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Rousseau 2850 Shop Style Miter Saw Stand Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was impressed right from the begining. The compact packaging with no damage was a welcome sight. All of the required framing componnents and fasteners were included. The instructions were relatively clear. I had to do some disassembly to finally get to the completed stage, however all went well. The purchaser has to supply the shelving and the extension material. I used Melamine coated Particleboard shelving finished 15-1/4 wide for the extension mateial which provides a smooth flat durable surface. It is sturdy, moves easily and stores in a small space. I will buy other kits from this company.
