1st Time on DVD!

A NOSTALGIC CELEBRATION OF AMERICA'S LEGENDARY "MOTHER ROAD"

Supermodel HUNTER RENO heads West to recreate one of America's most mythical road trips: Route 66 from Chicago to L.A.

Combining stunning photography, rare archival footage, eyewitness accounts and a real-life modern journey across the road, Route 66: A Cruise Down Main Street celebrates the rich, but vanishing, tradition of the all-weather highway that captures our imaginations!

Discover the early days of the road: how the introduction of the automobile sparked the wanderlust that lured carloads of families across 8 states and 2,400 miles...how the Dust Bowl forced thousands of desperate farmers along Route 66...and how the romance of the road -- its no-tell motels, feisty truck stops and neon glitz -- inspired artists and writers like John Steinbeck.

Stop in on the Custom Car Hall of Fame...the Devil's Rope Museum...the Museum Club dance hall -- and one of the last surviving old-time hotels along the Route. Discover the stories behind classic "66" cuisine -- including the famous pies at Norma's Café and the corn dogs at "Cozy's"! Plus, meet the colorful people whose real stories help shed light on the history and mystery of Route 66.

Route 66: A Cruise Down Main Street is a unique celebration of an American legend, a glittering tribute to the road that came to symbolize roadside culture in the 20th century.

1.0 out of 5 stars Narrator-Hunter Reno., January 5, 2002

I didn't care for the narrator. A corny video on some of the attractions along 66. If you collect 66 videos make this the last one you buy. If searching for a good video find one narrated by Michael Wallis...Route 66 an American Odyssey is a good one to start with

I didn't think so harshly about this video. As far as I can tell, it was part of a series once aired on the Travel Network. Having a woman presenter is a bit different from the "Buzz and Todd" school of Route 66 documentaries, too. (B&T being characters on the old "Route 66" TV series.) In the end, though, this is still lightweight. Hunter Reno (who?--apparently a fashion model) is pretty to look at but it's a 45 minute TV tour that gives you some eye candy and doesn't fill you up. If you're a 66 road trip fan, this video is not essential.
