5.0 out of 5 stars What a GREAT BOOK for the whole family!, February 26, 2006

This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
This is a GREAT book for the whole family. My kids loved the fact that they could color some of the attractions while driving and POP loved the book because it helped me plan our RT66 journey. The book has attractions in all 8 states and listing websites helps to pre-plan the adventure. It is a handy guide that I will keep forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference For Kids & Parents, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
This year instead of the theme parks, we're going to take our kids on a nostalgic journey across America's beloved road, Route 66. If you're considering a similar trip, I can assure you that your visit will be enhanced through this remarkable family guidebook. How refreshing to have a travel book devoted to some of the tourist sites that kids would enjoy. Thanks to this book, my children (ages 7 & 9) are eagerly awaiting our vacation. They have been using this book to learn about the various Route 66 attractions. As a result they have complied a "must see list" for our tour guide (which just so happens to be me). It has become a fun family experience; I've enjoyed spending time with the kids as we have mapped out the trip together. Mr. Roche's book has been a most helpful resource. We all loved the photos and we found the listing of the various web sites especially useful. The kids loved the coloring pages and they intend to match up their "masterpieces" with the real thing once we get there. I hope that the author / publisher has plans for a complete series of children's travel guides; we think that they are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun, concise guide to the Mother Road for the whole family, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
There are a carload of guide books on historic Route 66, but this is one of the few specially written for parents with young children. Author James H. Roche takes the reader along the entire eight-state route from Chicago,Illinois to San Bernardino, California, pointing out museums, roadside landmarks, and lots of great family-style eateries along the way. Nearly every entry includes a phone number and web site, along with a photo or illustration. For those of us who have only driven the "Mother Road" in short stretches off the Interstate, this book is a real eye-opener. Who knew, for example, that there were so many Route 66 museums on Route 66? Or that the "Guardian Angel of Route 66" is a retired barber in Seligman, Arizona, named Angel Delgadillo? Or that the Big Texas Steak Ranch in Amarillo will give you seconds for free if you can finish their 72-oz. steak within an hour? A fun read and a useful guide for any parent planning a trip down "The Main Street of America" with a backseat full of restless kids.
