5.0 out of 5 stars What a GREAT BOOK for the whole family!, February 26, 2006
By
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
This is a GREAT book for the whole family. My kids loved the fact that they could color some of the attractions while driving and POP loved the book because it helped me plan our RT66 journey. The book has attractions in all 8 states and listing websites helps to pre-plan the adventure. It is a handy guide that I will keep forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference For Kids & Parents, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
This year instead of the theme parks, we're going to take our kids on a nostalgic journey across America's beloved road, Route 66. If you're considering a similar trip, I can assure you that your visit will be enhanced through this remarkable family guidebook. How refreshing to have a travel book devoted to some of the tourist sites that kids would enjoy. Thanks to this book, my children (ages 7 & 9) are eagerly awaiting our vacation. They have been using this book to learn about the various Route 66 attractions. As a result they have complied a "must see list" for our tour guide (which just so happens to be me). It has become a fun family experience; I've enjoyed spending time with the kids as we have mapped out the trip together. Mr. Roche's book has been a most helpful resource. We all loved the photos and we found the listing of the various web sites especially useful. The kids loved the coloring pages and they intend to match up their "masterpieces" with the real thing once we get there. I hope that the author / publisher has plans for a complete series of children's travel guides; we think that they are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun, concise guide to the Mother Road for the whole family, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
There are a carload of guide books on historic Route 66, but this is one of the few specially written for parents with young children. Author James H. Roche takes the reader along the entire eight-state route from Chicago,Illinois to San Bernardino, California, pointing out museums, roadside landmarks, and lots of great family-style eateries along the way. Nearly every entry includes a phone number and web site, along with a photo or illustration. For those of us who have only driven the "Mother Road" in short stretches off the Interstate, this book is a real eye-opener. Who knew, for example, that there were so many Route 66 museums on Route 66? Or that the "Guardian Angel of Route 66" is a retired barber in Seligman, Arizona, named Angel Delgadillo? Or that the Big Texas Steak Ranch in Amarillo will give you seconds for free if you can finish their 72-oz. steak within an hour? A fun read and a useful guide for any parent planning a trip down "The Main Street of America" with a backseat full of restless kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun For The Kids, February 27, 2006
By
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
I love Route 66 and I LOVED this book. It was the perfect companion for our "66" vacation. As soon as we hit the road I surprised my kids with this book as a vacation present. They thought it was great; so much so that they even stopped watching the DVD player in our minivan (not for the whole trip mind you... but hey it's a start!). Coloring pages were also a big hit. We would love to see future editions.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an Excellent Book for RT 66 Lovers, February 27, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
I just loved the way this book was written. It had much information on the attractions and I loved the fact that it contained all the websites in the book. It made planning our trip a breeze. The 'kid friendly' book will keep them happy on the trip especially with the pictures they can color. It has attractions for all 8 states and the size of the book is very handy to carry around. I am so glad I discovered this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The TEXAS part is my favorite part of the book!, March 7, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
This book is the ultimate guide book for Route 66 travelers. My favorite part of the book is the TEXAS part probably because I live in TEXAS. In fact the book has a section about 'The Big Texan' restaurant in my hometown of Amarillo. I can tell you first hand it is not an easy task to eat a 72 oz. steak, but I DID IT! I didn't eat for three days and was so hungry I ate the entire meal in 52 minutes complete with all the fixins! I hope if you travel into Amarillo that you will try the same feat! Behave yourself in TEXAS though or I'll get you! Once again check out this WONDERFUL book! signed 'Mad Marshall'

5.0 out of 5 stars He Got It Right!, March 7, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
I was born in AZ and lived there until 1999. I know this glorious road from East to West. RT 66 was indeed my playground!!! I'm now living in New York (which feels like a million miles from RT 66!). Lately I've been feeling a bit nostalgic for the days gone by. I needed a quick "66" fix! I went searching on-line for a cure and that's when I came across this book. Instantly I knew that this book was the medicine that I needed! How wonderful to travel down memory lane with this guide. Mr. Roche got it right; he has all the highlights of a RT 66 trip, plus some others that I didn't even know about. Good stuff! There's no place on earth like Rt 66....SO... before "getting your kicks on RT 66," get this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Really Enjoyed This Book, March 6, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
I have travelled Route 66 before and this book has some attractions that I missed. The book is easy to read and an excellent guide for a family to plan a RT66 excursion. I was pleased to see websites listed in the book as it made it easy for me to find further information on a particular site to see. This book scores a 'GrandSlam' in my opinion!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has Websites for the Attractions listed, March 5, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
I especially like this book because I found it very helpful to plan my RT66 roadtrip through all 8 states because it listed the websites of the attractions. I was able to easily contact many of the places to go via the internet. The book is well written and has very good accurate information on where to go on this famous road. I would highly suggest this book to families with children as the book has many 'kid friendly' places to go with the kids.It even has some pictures of attractions that kids can color to get them even more involved with a memorable vacation. 5 STARS for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book will Really Help You Plan your Journey, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Route 66 Road Trip Family Fun (Paperback)
I am so glad I came upon this new book about RT66. I like the fact that is very compact and easy to take along on the trip. I am planning my Route 66 adventure now and the fact that is has most of the websites of the various attractions helps me to do further research on the internet. The book is designed well to guide the reader from Chicago to the end of RT66 in Santa Monica.I am going to let my child color the pictures in the book when we take our roadtrip this Spring. It will be a great book to keep as the last page has a spot for autographs!Love this book!
